| Sad Irony As I sat this morning in my little air conditioned home with my three yorkies (2 owned, 1 foster from my rescue group), I noticed by dawns early light that the neighbors (elderly have a pomeranian) had caught a shepherd mix puppy that has been running loose for a couple of months.... We live in a very rural area in the south where most dogs run loose and live outside...I'm the neighborhood exception....this particular dog didn't seem to have a home other than the half-mile area he travelled at night (cooler) lookin for food.... I thought about this dog in this "have a heart" cage out in the hot sun....of course the "county animal shelter" would be over soon (hopefully) to take him off to be euthanized (everything in the place is killed every Wednesday) ...he would have died of heartworm this summer anyway...if a car didn't kill him, as it did his littermates..I've been trying to catch them for a while... I can't help to think of those pets (myself included) who are spoiled rotten in almost every way...those that pay many dollars for a puppy...those that buy clothes and toys for them.... I guess it's the "luck of the draw" in some ways...of course we live in the greatest country in the world....In Mexico dogs are electocuted when they are rounded up...I'm sure most other places they are shot or poisened...at least we have humane treatment.... It just made me sad this morning...I gave extra hugs and kisses to my 3 yorkies this morning (in the airconditioned house sleeping on my bed) on my way to work... roxanne in NC

| it sure makes you think...doesn't it? do you think it's "luck of the draw"? I don't know....don't think I'll ever understand why some of our precious babies are living such a care-free life while others seem to suffer. I'm sorry that pup will never know what it's like to be a member of a family. To feel unconditional love like no other.

| I know what you mean. I was just having similar thoughts today. I had to take my little one to the emergency vet at about 10 p.m. last night because he just wasn't feeling well and not eating. He's fine now -- just a bug -- but I thought what a lucky pup he is to have a mom who will drive half-way across the city at 10 p.m. at night to get him some antibiotics when some animals don't have clean water, nutritious food, a safe place to rest and have never seen a vet. Right now my little angel is doped up on antibiotics and sleeping safely in his bed! He has no idea how lucky he is, but I do.

Donating YT 500 Club Member | Face it folks, our Yorkies live better than most of the world's population. Pretty sad commentary when my dog gets clean water three times a day and there is a whole continent of people in Africa who may never have had ANY in their whole lives ... You were good to try and round up those pups. There just is no justice sometimes. And yes, it's very sad that there are so many animals that get the short straw. But people do, too. I was reading an article the other day about the disproportionate distribution of the world's wealth. The article said that if the collective wealth of the world was divided evenly among everybody, we'd each have $3.something million EACH. That would ensure that a whole lot of creatures -- both two- and four-legged -- lived dramatically better lives. |
