I broke down and bought Paddington some Bully Sticks. Our trainer wouldn't stop recommending them until I did

He LOVES them. He will chew on it for HOURS if I'm not paying attention to time! Sometimes he chews almost a whole six inch stick in one sitting.... if I take it away from him and try to play a different game, such as his tennis ball (which he also loves...) he will steal my shoes!!!

I think he figured out that I will give him the bully stick whenever he chews on things, especially my shoes.

So, how long is too long, and how do I keep him from being destructive just to get his stick??? He is teething, so he may really need to chew things rather than being deceptive

He is just four months old. Nylabones only interest him for a minute or so.

one is enough in a day if it takes him all day with one than thats fine but more that that will prob cause diarrhea plus he needs to learn to stay away from your stuff if he needs to chew get him a non edible nylabone or those freeze bones

I think just one a day, if he chews it up in a few hours, then its ok. I wouldn't give him more than one.

He's only had three this week- one 12 inch and two 6 inch. I buy SO many nylabones it's ridiculous; they don't keep his interest at all!

Cody is about three months old and doesn't seem to have any interest in nylabones either. The first night I brought it home for him (the flexible chew) he carried it around like he was king, but since then hasn't been interested at all... I wish I could help you figure something else out for him to chew on but I'm out of ideas over here too

That is exactly how Paddington was! The first time I brought one home, he pranced around with it in his mouth (yes, he actually pranced... or maybe it was more like strutting) and he chewed it for a while, but now they only entertain him for a minute or two, and they have to be fresh out of the package for them to last even that long! They are expensive! I've tried the flexible chew, the denta chew, and one that was bacon flavored! The trainer said they lose flavor, and aren't as good of a consistency as the bully sticks... but I don't want him to be fat! The vet already said he is too chubby!

Lacy loves bully stix. My favorite is the flossies (a bully stick that is shaped into a spiral) I think a 6inch bully stick in one day is way too much for any yorkie, but esp. for a 4 month old puppy. Lacy takes anywhere from 3days to a week to chew one bully stick (the spiral one). If she chews down 2in of it, I take it away for the rest of the day. One time I forgot about one and she actually chewed a whole one in a day! She had a tummy ache the next couple days. I think they should be used as a treat - too many bully stix will make them fat. You should only go through 1-2 6in bully stix in a week depending on how big your dog is.

Ginger is 14 months olds. And a member of the teapot club (9+ pounds). She can go through a bully stick in 2-3 hours. We try to not give her one every day. But she does chew on other things, they are just her fave.

I love it...Teapot Club!! That is just tooo cute!! I have a female that can join, Lexie. We call her Chubs right now, being that she is about 43 days pregnant.

I give my babies bully stickes whenever we are home and need to do something without them..example we painted the bathroom, and we didn't need any Yorkie help!!

I am afraid of giving the stickes to them when we are not at home to supervise. Does anyone else feel this way or am I just over protective?

I only like to give them to Lacy when I can supervise her as well. I feel like bully stix are so much safer than rawhides and most other chews, but there is still a possiblity that they could choke on them. I'd rather be there just in case...

both nylabones and bully sticks come in many different varieties, but here are some pictures of examples

I should probably add, bully sticks are edible and nylabones come in edible varieties and some are soft, some are hard, and I think all of them have some kind of flavor (but come in different flavors)

I don't give Max his bully sticks if I'm not home either. I'm afraid he'll choke if he gets off a big chunk.

I buy him the 12" jumbo braided bully sticks. It takes him a couple of weeks to go through it. He's so funny when he gets a new one. He carries around this huge thing like he's a king, settles himself down and goes to town. He doesn't like regular bully sticks once he gets the first few layers off, and can go through a regular Flossie in about 3 hours.

Try to figure out a Yorkie's way of thinking! What's the difference between a regular and a braided bully stick?

Gotta love them
