| What does your dog's vet do? Ellie was having symptoms of a UTI so she went to the vet last night. They like to take a urine sample instead of the owner bringing one so it isn't contaminated but they said if we could get one that would be okay. Well, that didn't work to well so they had to take it. When we got to the vet they were VERY busy. It is an ER hospital so they had a ton of emergencies. The vet tech came out and said that there wasn't a room available (they are adding on more rooms) so would it be okay if she took her back for the vet to look at and take a urine sample. Ellie's vet is very good and I trust her so that was fine. They said that they didn't have to sedate her. I was thinking that they were going to do it by catheter but I found out that she did a cystocentesis. I am glad she didn't have to sedate her but am just curious. What would your dog's vet have done? It seems like a weird poll question though so I thought I would ask it in the forums.

| My vet had me walk around and hold a wide mouth bottle they gave me and hold it under him at just the right moment and put the top on right away, and bring it in. After a couple of messy misses, we got it. |

| I tried using a pie pan and when she started going I would pick her up and put her over it but she would stop going. My mom tried putting the pan under her while she was going but Ellie stopped peeing, jumped up on all fours, spun around and looked at her.

| They usually have to take the urine sample themselves because they don't want it contaminated.

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | A cysto is very common and easy way to get a sterile urine sample. It doesn't hurt them at all and they dog barely notices. They are usually more worried about being on their back or side and not about the needle. its completely normal and nothing to worry about.
