| Summertime travel...need input Hi everybody. Tiffany (and Cyrano) here. I was just reading afew threads and was wondering about summertime travel with your yorkie. I am travel to St. Louis from the PA area for the 4th of July weekend. I noticed that airlines will accept pets IF the temperature does not exceede 85 degrees. Well come on, when was the last time you remembered a 4th of July weekend that was not at LEAST 85 degrees. So....that obviously puts me in a bind. I would like to travel and take my baby with me but am stuck trying to figure out how to safely transport him. Anyone ever encounter this and found a way to work through it successfully? I noticed Amtrak doesn't accept pets. Maybe I could put a little harness on him and say he's my aid dog so he can ride with me (haha). I'm sure there are people out there who have traveled with pets during the hot summer months....but...how? With whom? And most definately....safely.... Tiffany (and Cyrano) |

| you are correct........ you can carry-on as long as there are not more than the limited amount of pets on board. ALSO...... it is my personal thinking that a Yorkie shouldn't be put on a plane as "cargo" anytime. NOW remember..... this is my own personal opinion.... I know that their are good YT'ers who have received and shipped their Furkids.

| If you're flying, you need to make reservations for your dog, to guarantee that there will be a spot for them, under your seat. The airlines that do allow pets in the cabin only have 2 spots on each flight for pets. I'd never fly a Yorkie as cargo, too many bad things can happen I always do roadtrips so I don't have to hassle with the airlines. I flew with Starr ONCE and while she did well, they hassled us on our return flight because we were ONE minute late for check in. We had to fly the next day, grrr~!

| Thank you for the replies. You were right about making a reservation for Cyrano. I became concerned because I spoke with a customer service rep. with AA. He stated the weather regulations. I'm guessing he misunderstood me that I wanted Cyrano to ride WITH me, not as cargo. I ended up making a reservation to fly out on Delta Airlines. Its $50 each way for Cyrano to ride. I made a reservation for Cyrano as well. He WILL be going with me. Yeeeah! St. Louis here we come! |

| I just picked Kalina up from Indianapolis last week. The reason I did that is because it was too hot in either city to put her in cargo and also I was starting to worry about her flying alone. The airline said my carrier was 1" to tall and made me buy another one from them for $50, which was a really cheap carrier and so low that an 11 week puppy had trouble standing in it. We sat on the runway for 4 hours and it was freezing under the seats from the air conditioning. I did take Kalina out and held her on my lap because I was afraid she'd get hypothermia. The attendant never said a word and, of course, I asked people around me if they minded before I took her out. After my trip I was so happy that I took her on with me and did not put her in cargo. Good luck on your trip and let us know how everything goes!

| I'm flying Delta to Ixtapa next month and since it's out of the country I bought a "Delta" Sherpa carrier. The last thing I want is grief about her carrier. There are cuter carriers out there but I just wanted to make sure I have no trouble...

It was a hard carrier but there would have been plenty of room for the one they refused to let me use. It was Northwestern Airline and it was a nightmare from start to finish.

It is not enough for it to say "airline approved". So I just ordered this one from here: http://www.thepetonline.com/product_...ducts_id=44202 This one is only $25.99, and if you sign up before placing the order, they'll send you a $3 off code. The shipping was $9, so after the discount, tax, and shipping, it is only $34. Its measurements are 12x9x9 and it is vented all over. | |
