| collar and tags With all the pups going missing lately there has been some talk of always having a collar on just for the i.d. tags in case they get lost. I thought it was dangerous to have/leave collars on these little ones? If mine had collars on, I'd be afraid they would pull on each others and get hurt. I wish there was something else we could do in addition to microchipping that would be safe. Any ideas??? |

My Tiny Treasures Donating Member | I didn't have collars on mine either until just recently, after reading about all the babies that turn up missing I decided it was time. All mine are now wearing collars and I bought them each a name tag. I got a great deal too, only $3.50 a tag. So far they aren't pulling on eachothers but both Meiah and Macey have gotton out of theirs so I had to tighten them up a bit. I just pray they don't get caught on anything. But I wanted them to have something on....."just in case"........god forbid. |

| Sadie keeps a collar on at all times unless I am not at home. I take it off of her when I leave, but when I'm home she's got it on for that very reason. I just refuse to take any chances.

| Mine all wear collars all the time with their id tags on them. I have a regular step in harness that I use for walking but the collars stay on for identification purposes. They have never pulled on each other's collars, in fact they don't even seem to notice that they have a collar on. I would advise getting the break away collar that way if it does get caught on something the collar will release rather than choking them.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Wylie (3 yr old) wears his collar 24/7. Marcel (6 mths and tiny) wears his at all times except when he's home alone (he MUST have a bell too bc he is so small). IF fitted properly, collars/tags can be a lifesaver - but you really have to fit them properly AND/OR take them off at unsafe times (crating, home alone etc.). Of course, collars are for id/bell purposes only - not leashing!

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | I get mine here: http://www.boomerangtags.com/ They are AWESOME! I got the "collar tag" for Marcel, who is tiny, so there is no dangle at all.

| I had this same worry.... They have these collars now that you can put on your dog and it is a gps system that tells you where your dog is at all times... The only problem is, these are made for big dogs and are very bulky and with yorkies being so popular and cute I would doubt anyone would want to turn them in if they found one so most people would just take the collar off... Anyway I asked my Vet if they make a gps chip that can be embeded into the dog (like a micro chip) I know these excist and they can do it to a human but they are very hard to come by and illegal... Anyway, these little gps trackers are about the same size as a microchip and someone that found your pup and intended to keep him/her would never know it was there until you showed up at their front door... Anyway my vet said that they are infact researching this idea for dogs and cats and other pets and we soon might see something like this no the market... (no idea how much this would cost but i would probably spend it if it insured that my baby could never be lost or stolen) |

| I can't decided what to do. I'm so afraid of something happening to them while wearing the collar - even at home when I'm here - and I'm worried about them getting lost. I don't know what I would do if something happened to them at home cause of a collar. I just can't decide. |

| I have collars on both mine all the time. Rudy's collar actually has his name and our phone # embeded in the collar. I know we got a brocure for the collar at our vets office. We ordered it from a company in Las Vegas. Sorry, I forget the name right now. We also have both of them microchipped and they both wear their harness's all the time. I feel, the more you can do to identify your little one, the better.

| My first yorkie, Molly Muffins, gave us a lesson when she was about 4 months old. We used to only put her collar on when we went out, and take it off when we were home. Well, my husband let her outside, fell asleep on the sofa for a little snooze, and our doorbell rang and woke him up. In that ten minute catnap, Molly had wiggled under the wooden privacy fence and into the neighbors backyard. Our neighbor asked him if he was missing anything when he answered the door-and then they gave hime Molly! Thanks God Molly went into this neighbors yard, because the neighbors on our other side and directly behind us do not have fenced in yards. This was 11 years ago. From that day on Molly wore her collar 24/7 for her entire life. We never had a problem with it. Now our new girl, Nina, who is but 12 weeks old is wearing a collar and name tag. We plan to get her micro chipped too.

| I've had 2 close calls with collars and I am deathly afraid of them. Desi got her collar caught in between her mouth and (thank God) I was home. I had to cut it off of her. Then another time, I was home and after a while I got to wondering where Desi was since it had been a little while since I saw her. My house is not huge but its big enough where she could disappear for a while. After a while of looking for her, I decided to look under my bed ( a favorite spot of hers) and her collar was caught on the screw of the bed frame that's used to open and close the frame when you what to make it bigger or smaller. If I had been at work that day, Desi would have choked to death .

| We've had similar experiences. Sophie's collar was too loose and it was caught in her mouth like a bridle on a horse and thankfully my husband found her that time. We have a chain link fence and another loose collar somehow got hooked on a piece of the fence. We caught that right away. But on the other hand her collar and tag made it possible for a family a couple of streets away to contact us when she got away. I am happy to report that all the escape routes out of our backyard have been found and blocked . They are smart, smart little boogers! She is also a little bigger and the smallest collar fits her just right, not too snug but not too loose. |

| Lacy doesn't normally wear a Tag. I put a different collar on her everyday depending on what outfit I put on her (she wears clothes pretty much every day). Some of the collars have cute little charms attached but not a tag. She does have one collar that has a tag with her name and phone number, and I do put that on her if we go to the dog park or I have to leave her somewhere if I go out of town. She is microchipped.
