Bella Boo & Diggy Too! Donating GS Member | Bella attacked me an hour ago.... Seriously it was a bad attack. Diggy screams when you cut his butt hair, I mean SCREAMS he is soooo drama filled and a baby...really bad. I dont even shave it I cut & trim it not even all that short and I have never even nipped or pulled 1 hair on him!...anyway. After I cut the hair he is still screaming as usual so I carried him outside to calm him down....Bella follows, she turns around jumps as high as she can biting me, she got the inside of my thigh and outside of the other one she went crazy. SHe broke skin and left welts. I am just so upset by this. I was screaming stop stop stop (to her) and he stopped his lil tantrum so then she stopped when he did. WHat the hell it this all about?? Did she think I was hurting him??? Why would she turn on me like that?? I have cried like 3 times...I have seen her get really mad before but this was different, she litterally was in killer mode...If I had been a small dog Id have to say she would have did serious damage. WHats going on??? SHe is 2, spayed at 6 months never had a heat. He is 13 weeks and appears to be really annoying to her...He is her true brother. Same mom same dad. My sister had commented that Bella acts more like his mother than anything I just laughed and said ya ya she just beats him up (nicely) and corrects him....shes showing him who the boss is. Could she really think she is his mom? Does she think she protects him? Will she attack like this over him forever or just while he is a pup??? She is acting totally normal now and as soon as she got done attcking me, ran thru the yard playing and acted as if nothing happened.

Wow that's pretty scary! She might be playing "mommy." I would just suggest that the next time you are doing the grooming, put her away where she can't see you guys and isn't able to get at you. I'm sure other's will have suggestions. Sorry this happened to you... | |

| Wow, that is scary. I wouldn't even know what I would do I mine did that. I think it would be better if you put her in a different room and not let her 'think' that you're hurting her 'baby' |

| I think this is a very serious problem that is only going to get worse. Apparently, she doesn't have respect for you as leader of the pack if she would attack you under any circumstances. You have to regain that role as soon as possible, because if she thinks she can boss you in one situation, she'll soon start trying it in other areas. I wouldn't let her bite your husband either, even if it's their thing. If she can bite her own people, she'll feel free to bite guests as well, whether it's playing or protective. I'd recommend talking to a trainer and fast, before this gets too out of hand. |

| Sounds to me like this is totally abnormal for her; she just went into maternal mode. And yeah, maybe she knows she's not his mother, but maybe she feels he needs one, and her instincts come into play. That is scary. . . I agree, put her away next grooming session; hopefully as he grows her instincts will chill out. Good luck, sorry this happened, keep the bite really clean -- don't want an infection on top of everything else.

| Yep, that sounds like "protection mode" to me too. It sure would be good to put her away next time you groom your little boy. For Diggy to be soooooo scared when you cut the hair on his butt is an alarming thing for me too. He must really be scared out of his mind and it has probably nothing to do if you ever hurt him by doing it but he just doesn't know what's going on back there. It reminds me of Mitzi when I first started to cut her toe nails. She fought me like it was for her life and she was never hurt before either! Well... I then took it very easy, one toe nail at a time (yes, it took me over 2 weeks to cut all of them) with a lot of treats and good girls and now it's not a problem anymore. Maybe you also tense up b/c you know already what's going to happen and that transfers to the little boy... a vicious circle... |

Bella Boo & Diggy Too! Donating GS Member | killer....lol Yes, I agree...I think she just lost her mind for a second. I know she has a sense his sickness and really didnt do well when he was having seizures. I like the fact that she is protective over him. ALso it may have something to do with we have MANY doggie visitors and my ex hubbies yorkie Zoe (great dog) who is also a sister to Bella and Diggy came over Wednesday. SHe attacked Diggy for no reason as soon as she walked into my house, so in return Bella attacked her. No harm was done to any of the dogs just a lot of noise and pushing down. Bella is VERY submissive to me she rolls over Belly up on command and she cowers to me when I raise my voice. I definately think she challeneged me but out of maternal instinct, I seriously think she thought I was hurting Diggy. She did not attack until we stepped outside...in the house she paced and jumped when he cried but as soon as I stepped out with Diggy in my arms she charged! I will def keep an eye on her and watch for more signs of disrespect. She has passed all my tests so far. I can take a bone from her without a peep, play with her food, I hand feed her often I can mess with her when she is sleeping, and when I correct her she hits the floor and cowers to me (you'd think I had actually spanked her before, I NEVER) Dont get me wrong she is Alpha female according to Ceasar's standards....but I really feel after watching her this afternnon that is was just over Diggy. I can respect her love for him. If my mom was hurting my kids...Id attack too!!!!

| Yeah I bet she thought you were hurting him... Princess bites whoever is on or near me whenever I scream.. its so weird.. like if Im with my sis and we see a spider we scream and growls and tries to bite my sis.. or if my friend tries to scare me or something and jump on me princess goes CRAZY and tries to attack them... i guess it could be a good thing if a stranger comes or something.. she just always freak out when i scream and bites whoever is near me |

| Wow! It sounds like she was trying to protect him, but I would keep her in another room or something when you're grooming him. I'm not sure what to do in this situation, but I would maybe talk to a trainer or something and get some ideas. You don't want her attacking a visitor like that. And, I don't think she should be allowed to bite your husband, even if it's just the way they play. She's getting the wrong message that it's okay to bite. I'm sorry she attacked you, that must have really freaked you out! |

| My Min Pin used to do something similar when we gave the cat a bath. She would stand by our feet & SCREAM the whole time the cat was in the bath (howling). Then she'd nip at our ankles. She never full-on attacked back then, though

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | This is an interesting subject bc when Marcel has been hurt (like, ouched his leg and was SCREAMING), Wylie literally seems to go out of his mind. He sort of lunges at us holding Marcel, trying to get to him, almost seems "crazed and violent" - and we have to push him back so he doesn't accidently trample the hurting Marcel. But, I don't think that's what he's trying to do at all. I think Wylie is just picking up on this terrible fear/emotion/hurt in the air and gets so overwhelmed, he doesn't know what to do. I think he wants to get to Marcel to lick and sniff him, but he forgets that he's being a "bull in a china store" in the process - but can't help it bc he's too overwhelmed by the crying. A strange thing to witness, but it sounds kinda similar...

Bella Boo & Diggy Too! Donating GS Member | Thanks for replying....Bella has been totally normal, I think I am just going to have to watch her when it comes to Diggy crying or being in a threatening position. SHe was definately trying to get to Diggy I was standing up holding him. SHe was jumping up and biting me. She is not a violent dog normally by any means so I dont really think she needs a trainer just yet. If this is a repeated behavior I would then consider it, for now I think I will watch her and love her bunches!!!
