Bella Boo & Diggy Too! Donating GS Member | Would you Bother? to test your baby for liver shunt again??? He is now 13 weeks. He had Bile Acid Test a month ago. The results were 5 pre and 7 post. No signs, symptoms, nothing. The reason he was tested was first I believe all yorkies should have this test ran if possible. (calming to the nerves for those of us who are a bit paranoid) PLUS he had seizures....found the root to those...Hypoglycemia. With proper measures taken daily for hypo he has been PeRfEcT (knock on a BIG ole piece of wood) SO what would you do? I think the test is stressful being they have to fast. I do not wanna mess with his system being everything is going good. I see a post where a babies first test was 29 post now tested later on his are 147 or something like that. 29 does not see all that far from 7 but maybe with these tests thats worlds apart....just got me thinking and my heart going out to the baby whose #'s are now high..... Any opinions welcomed.

Luvs Lulu Donating Member | If the first came out neg then I wouldn't stress him out to do it again. Or at worst wait maybe two years down the line for a recheck.

| Wait a little while longer. Maybe test him again a few months before the health guarantee your breeder gave you expires. I think a good breeder would take this into consideration even after the guarantee expires, but just to be on the safe side...

| I would say yes, BUT, with his hypoglycemia issues....I'm not sure. Have you asked your VET? What am I thinking, they will probably say yes. Hopefully you'll get some good answers from the folks here at YT. They've got me working hard here today. How dare they, don't they know I have a post average to keep up? The nerve! I'll pm you later.

Bella Boo & Diggy Too! Donating GS Member | terrible I have never seen anything so bad.....OKay to be honest....my best friend went with me and when she seen the conditions she almost got sick. There was this baby named Owen STINKIN CUTE! 1 year old all black rat terrier (i think) and he was just too sweet and cool SO my friend was contemplating stealing him. (i know its bad) but she (the breeder) just lets them all out the back door (lived on a acre with junk cars and run down NASTY pool) and let them all run INCLUDING the yorkie babies. She (my friend) was thinking of ditching to my car on the other side of house, out of view and keeping him. She chickened out but I think of lil Owen often. I hope he is okay. He was one of these dogs that you just INSTANTLY bonded with. He told her and I both I wanna come with you thru his eyes. SOunds crazy but I felt it.

Oh I see, now I think I remember you talking about his breeder before. Thank goodness you saved him! I couldn't leave him behind either! Well I would wait anyway, so you don't have to deal with the fasting for a few more months...

Bella Boo & Diggy Too! Donating GS Member | yeah Im thinking wait.....It just makes me nervous how many test positive after testing negative. Just wondering how low a 7 post result is. at what post # do signs of shunt show or some kind of issue? And whats is considered a REALLY high post number?

| I wanted to answer you about Otis's test. Yes the BAT is actually the only test I've had run. The first time they did only a fasting. It was 53. So I took him back for pre and post. Pre - normal, post - 53 (odd that it's the same as the first fasting... the vet thought maybe he snuck some food when I wasn't looking and wasn't totally fasting. My next step will be a C Protein Assay test. Supposed to be around 30.00 and will be a better indicator if its MVD, because the post level wasn't over 100 which is what the look for with shunt. Plus his spells were very mild. I was a little suspicous because the fasting was the same as the post 1 week later. He had been fasting about 14 hours when he had the pre and post. His liver enzymes were normal and and the chem tests were normal. I will probably have it done again, along with the cprotein assay in a few months unless his symptoms continue, then I will go ahead with the c protein thing sooner. Maybe if your vet knows he has hypo issue's, they will allow him some sugar water or something and the minimum fasting. Sorry Darlin, wish I could help ya more. Bye the way, Otis had his 3rd dose of lactulose tonight and..... TaaDaaa we have soft poo!! I've never been so excited for soft poo. But most of his paw licking and stopped and no weird butt issue's that I've seen. I think that's good news. You'll figure out what's right for Diggy. If only he was a little bit cute, with his little fluffy butted self. Maybe you and the furkids could roadtrip to Indy and we could have Paaaaaaaarteeeeee! I have a fenced in backyard, complete with chickenwire patches on even the smallest gaps (paranoia) so it's very safe!!
