| Microchip question I definitely plan to take Gizmo in to be microchipped, but I have a couple of questions... 1. How old should he be? Or is it by weight? 2. Where do they put the microchip? I thought it was on their ear...doesn't that hurt the hair growth? I know appearance is secondary to safety, but I wonder if it's better in a different location? 3. What actually do they do and does it hurt the dog? 4. What information is stored on the microchip? Can that information be updated if it changes?

| I think they can be chipped at any age. Ours got it done when they were spayed and neutered. They insert a rice looking chip in wth a needle. On mine it was put in their sholder. It doesnt hurt them. Yes you can always change the info by calling the chip company. It will either be Avid or Home Again.

| I just got Bonnie's chip this week, she's 4 months old ( we thought she was 5 months.) They place between the shoulder blades. Then you have to have it activated, and pay a fee. It come with all the info you'll need. $10 activation,$14.99 a year. Bonnie didn't yelp or anything when she had it done. I think the chip has a number in it,and when you need to find your pet that number will show up on th lost pet "thing", and it will tel whom ever who the pet really belongs to. You must activate it ,if you don't it will only be for local tracking, and not national. We "Home Again". "S" V^^^^V Last edited by VAMPYBITES; 06-07-2007 at 02:49 PM. |

| My Zoe came to me already microchipped when we got her at 12.5 weeks. Not sure when they did the microchip but it is something they inject. You can't see it so does not affect their appearance. The vet has a scanner that they pass over the dog and it reads the registation number. |

Otherwise you just pay it once. I went round and round with the company about it cause I was NOT going to pay every year. It took a while but they finally told me I would still be in their data base and if my dog was scanned, the information would be available. At first they made it sound like you HAD to pay yearly. |

| I just had Kaya's done this week during her exam appointment. I asked if they would do it in the room so I could watch. They said she might yelp but she barely made a sound. It was so quick and easy. They put it between her shoulders on her back. |

| I had mine done at the humane society. Much cheaper than the vet and no yearly fee.

| I'm not sure what age and weight they should be, but the vet said we should wait a while for Wobie's chip, because he was only 2 pounds.

| I got Wesley and Maddie microchipped about two weekends ago. They put it between their shoulder blades. I wasn't with them when it was done. I waited in the waiting room then they took Wes for about 2 minutes then Maddie for about 2 minutes. The assistant said that Wes cried out a little, but Maddie was fine. I feel so relieved that they are microchipped now. They only wear harnesses and tags when we go on walks so it makes me so much more comfortable to know that they will always have the chip with them. It cost me a one time fee of $35 each. |
