| I'm Pissed Off.....socialize Your Dogs! OK. it's Tuesday and I've cooled down enough to be able to vent in a civilized manner without thinking "Violent Thoughts"! Last Saturday, I took my female puppy (15 weeks) Abigail, into a Pet Store, to see the on sight "Groomer" to get her nails trimmed. After I finished paying at the Register......as we were walking out of the Store to leave. A woman with a Black mini schnauzer (did I spell that right?) male, with no apparent reason or warning? Leaped out of his owner's Shopping cart as she was picking out dog biscuits from the displays. He attacked my male Artie who was just walking by below him! The owner didn't even pull her dog off of mine! He was latched onto him, Thank goodness for mine wearing a harness and for all that hair! Even though I was in shock, I thought fast enough to pull him up. Her dog was absolutely vicious, she acted like she didn't even see her dog do it, she never reprimanded or scolded him either and even worse she didn't even act concerned or apologize! I didn't scream or go pyscho, I was surprised at how non-chalant she was I calmly took both of mine to the car and locked them up. I went back into the Pet Store, I confronted his owner and explained to her that "If she was going to continue to take her dog into Public places, she should socialize him"! And further more if he had seriously hurt my dog she would be responsible for his Vet. bill or even worse she would have to replace my $3,000.00 Yorkie! And also she was Lucky that mine is not aggressive back and that he wasn't a Pitbull that would not tolerate that behaviour and eat her dog alive! She actually was blowing me off? I'm surprised that I didn't beat her up, thanks to my "Anger Management" practices and being an old Lady? Twenty years ago I would have done some damage, as you can tell I'm very attached to my Artie! Thanks for giving me the time and opportunity for some "Therapy". I feel a lot better |

| Urgh!!! That is so frustrating!!! My family makes fun of me because I don't really like people - only dogs. This is why!! I'm glad Artie is ok (and I hope the other guy was coughing up hairballs for the rest of the day!!).

| You were soooo much better than I would have been! "Psycho" would probably be considered mild!!! I don't even take mine to bc there are soooo many idiots that have dogs that are bigger than mine that are totally NOT socialized. When we were at Petsmart a few weeks ago there was a younger couple with a pit/mix inside the store... in the short amount of time that I was there I saw him go after 4 dogs of all sizes. The owners were completely oblivious and actually were laughing about it! No scolding or anything for their dog! I look at these people with such disgust bc they KNOW how their dog acts obviously and they STILL take it to public places where they KNOW there will be other dogs! Its only a matter of time before something happens... and let me tell you I KNOW there is no way this guy would or could pay a dime in a a vet bill or for a replacement... it barely looked like he took his own dog to the vet! Koudos to you for standing your ground and letting this person know the possible repercussions of her actions... without getting "psycho"!!!

| ...so sorry that you had to deal with such blatant uncivilized behavior. I compare people like that to people who have badly behaved children, whose parents could care less about their kids being off the wall. For future reference, you should try and keep your yorkie in the child seat in the shopping cart, I always do. You never know the dangers that are lurking around and waiting to attack small dogs! I understand how angry you must be. For future reference, try and keep you yorkie as close to you in those situations where other dogs hang out. Stay positive, there are still alot of responsible pet owners out there!!

| That's horrible!!! Good quick thinking on your part... It's as if people just don't have any respect for others these days. I see the same happening with some oblivious parents and human toddlers... Thank goodness Artie is okay! |

| Good for you!! Tecnically, that was an "assault" on you and your dog and you would have every right to conduct a citizen's arrest and/or sue her civilly for assault. Assault is the act of placing someone "in fear of physical harm to themselves or a third party" |

| What is it with people and their dogs this week. My husband and I went to Petsmart with toby sunday to get some food well this woman with what i call PUGZILLA because it was the biggest pug i have ever seen walks up next to us watches her dog hike his leg then squat and take a poo then DOESNT EVEN CLEAN IT UP..I noticed all around the store there were pee stains on everything why cant people clean up after their dogs it makes it hard for people with other male dogs because they want to mark over it plus it makes it stink....its getting to the point where i wouldnt be suprised if petsmarts around here dont let you bring in your pets anymore.

| That is such a terrible expierience. I'm so sorry you had to go through that. People really need to take responsibility, if they are going to have pets in public. I'm like that both with my children & Josie. I make sure everytime we go out every one is on their best behavior. I hope that lady learned a thing or two!

| I have said this before and I will repeat it again. I am always amazed to see the lack of care in some humans, more so the one's who allow their pet's to act in a certain manner. It sounds like you handled this situation in such a great way and I wish only the person would have been more "open to listen to what you had to say". Your Yorkie Artie, another pet, or even a child could have seriously been hurt. Thank goodness it did not end this way. I hope this never happens to you again!

Being a mother of 2 boys as well as 4 furbaby's I try to be more aware of what they do in public. (Make sure they aren't running around, getting in people's way, etc) Yet at times I see people allow their kids to run amuk in the stores, restaurants, etc and wonder how can they have a blind eye to it! I have a mini schnauzer and she likes to jump on people but we are trying to change that and when and if she's ever in public, we make sure she doesn't even get an opportunity to do such bad behavior. When I take my furbabies to the pet store I always put them in the carts (the mini schnauzer too) just so that I know where they are at all times, don't have to worry about other dogs getting to them, or them going to other dogs and even worse having a human accidentally step on them. You may know how your dogs will react/interact with other dogs but you don't know how other dogs will react/interact with yours. There are a lot of dog owner's out there that don't know or understand the concept that dogs too need to be socialized. When I was a first time dog owner, I never heard or knew of that concept. Some people think that it's cute their dogs jump on you because they think their dog would never harm anyone. And some think socialized means they don't growl or act aggressively towards you so they are "socialized" which is incorrect. I think it was great that Artie confronted the lady but unfortunately I think it fell on deaf ears. Only thing you can do is protect yourself and be responsible for yourself.

| Thanks for all of your Support & Kind words! You guys always make me feel better! I always think I am over reacting when it comes to my Babies. I have invested a lot of time in training & money in them, I even make all their clothes, I out right spoil them and they are priceless and irreplaceable! I respect others rights and opinions, but I can not Tolerate such irresponsibility, I felt violated but I didn't want to react with violence to such ignorance and lower myself to her level! In fact I had to go back to that Pet Store today.......the Groomer was amazed and one of the sales girls commented that she saw the incident. And the Manager claims they are not responsible for other customers animals and it is enter at your own risk! If it happens again? I probably will be "Psycho"! I will never go into that Store again anyway! |
