| Agility ANYONE? Does anyone do Agility with your yorkie? I think it looks like so much fun! I went with my boyfriend to a ladys home yesterday where she has a huge backyard and trains for agility... She had a toy dog competition yesterday and It was soo much fun to watch! We are deffinately getting in to it... The only problem was that her next begginer class dosnt start till the fall =/ Anyway, Does anyone else do agility with their baby or know if yorkies are known to be good at this sort of thing? Ive been reading how maltese are really good at it but i havent heard anything about yorkies... Either way, im sure we will have a blast but Just thought about getting some input.... Thanks! | That sounds like so much fun. I have often thought that Daisy would love something like that because she is so smart and eager to learn new things. I have thought that learning something new and challenging would be a great way to keep her little mind occupied with something other than trying to find kleenex to tear up. LOL I would love to find a class I could get Daisy into. Let us know how your baby does.

Banning Thread Dictator Donating Member | Eddie is in his third Agility class, and he does quite well. He's often the slowest dog, but what he gives up in speed he makes up in being smart. He follows my directions well and seldom takes wrong turns like the other dogs. The result is he completes the course as fast or faster than the other dogs. His biggest problem is the noise. He tends to get scared when a big dog slams down on the teeter. He's having to repeat Agility 2 because of that, but I'm finding he's getting better. I'm not sure if I'll ever have him compete, but it's been a great bonding experience for us and good socialization for him with the other dogs. YTer Dougal&Little is also into agility. Liz is from New Zealand, and her pups kick big-dog butt. Dougal won a trophy in his last class. Here are some vids of Eddie doing so-so in the last class. He got scared on the teeter. http://www.dropshots.com/day.php?use...8&ctime=063756

| Thanks for sharing those videos! This looks like fun! Are they heavy enough to tilt the teeter? I saw the trainer help a little. Thanks again for sharing. I read somewhere that they have to be a certain age to start this sort of training due to bone development, but as soon as we can, we plan to give it a try.

| They lady that I met with yesterday says 6 months is the age they care start... and yes, they can tilt the teter... my boyfriend and i were worried about that yesterday cuz bailey isnt even 2 lbs... but we put our drink on it that was about 1 lb and it VERY SLOWLY moved... so if your dog is at least 1 lb it should move... |

Little dogs have no problem tipping the teeter. The instructor was keeping it from slamming down and scaring him.

| I've had Ginger through 3 agility classes too. I have to agree with Mike, the noise is what gets to her. We will definitely never compete, you need a coordinated handler for that, lol. But its a great experience and lots of fun for both of us. I would wait until your pups a year to be sure you don't cause any unecessary stress on his little joints. Good luck, I hope you go for it!

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | i was thinking of doing a class with morgan but i don't think she'd pay attention. How do you get your off leash dog to pay attention to you and what your doing instead of every other dog in there??? morgan would think she was there to socialize with everyone

| Good Question Emmy loves to run a little "obstacle" course in our family room, BUT she is a bit ADHD...hehe. I am not sure she could stay focused.

| That is what you are supposed to have down before you start the class (says the instructor i will be using) They should know all the basic commands... Sit Stay Lay Come ect... Also... The instructor said 6 months is the age that you can start at... I guess it just depends on the instructor.... |
