Home made gravy is what Dixie needs. Hi guys,................Anybody know how to make a good home made gravy for the dry dog food. I have been giving her part dry food and brown rice with some boiled chicken and sometimes cottage cheese, and she loves it She just sits there and watches me prepare he lunch and dinner and eats everything on her plate. She is happier with this combination then just the dry food. Tonight I am adding cooked potato, cooked carrots with boiled chicken and smashing her hard dog food. She had a tooth pulled on Thursday, so I was told to keep her food soft for a few days. Dixie is 7 months old and also got spayed on Thursday. She was so chipper the next morning like she never had surgery. She also is 11½ lbs. I am thinking about home cooking her. Ginny Last edited by Ginny Merry; 06-02-2007 at 11:11 AM.

Hi Ginny -- The easiest and healthiest home-made "gravy" would be to cook a chicken breast in a little water and put the brest and broth in a blender and liquify it. That way you have no added corn (cornstarch) or wheat (flour) for thickening the gravy. You could do the same with any lean cut of meat such as beef or lamb. If you take get a small mold, this mixture also makes a TERRIFIC frozen treat for hot summer days - although it is a little messy.

That's exactly what I started feeding my 2 after the bad dog food news began. I boil rice in chicken broth with chopped up chicken, then mix that with their Royal Cannin, some Missing link and a little warm water. My "take it or leave it" 10 lb dog now licks his bowl clean! My 5 lb "I'll eat anything any time" dog just shakes in anticipation while I get their meals ready. And I also plan to cook all their food after this batch of dry food is gone. Sorry, I don't have any gravy ideas, but maybe a little chicken or beef broth would work just as well. I know someone posted a link for home cooking recently. Good luck!
