| Saying hello a faux pas? I was at the pet store just browsing (again!) and a woman was there with a gorgeous baby yorkie in one of those front carriers. She was so adorable with a bow in her hair and sitting so well in her carrier. The lady didn't seem to be busy so I smiled at her and said "hello. what a beautiful princess!" I wasn't being overenthusiastic or cheesey with my tone, I said it kind of in the same way I would tell someone I like their earrings. I was giving her and her baby a compliment. She acted offended, and sniffed and huffed off.... was I rude and annoying, or was this lady just a snot? I love it when people tell me what a great baby I have. and personally I think if you are going to dress your dog to be adorable with a pretty bow etc, you want to show her off and be complimented for your efforts. Maybe that is just me. I am still knew to this yorkie thing; maybe I don't understand the social rules? Would you be offended? -O

YT 500 Club Member | Maybe I don't either, but I love to see other Yorkies and will always talk to the owner if I get a chance. I love them so. We were at the tire store tonight waiting for tires to be put on our car, and a lady and her son came in. She had to make over our dog, and it made me feel good. Our Sophie loves the attention and of course was looking for it. Even gave the lady a kiss. Sorry she was not friendly, but I wouldn't say you were out of line.

| It sounds to me like she was a snot. I love it when people compliment or want to pet my two. You didn't do anything..... wrong.

| Sounds like that lady is a snot. If I don't want to be bothered when I'm out I don't take my babies with me bc I know people will always stop and want to pet and see them. Most of the time I really dont mind it at all. i'm really shy but when they are with me I am more relaxed and actually enjoy talking to people about my furkids. Everyone thinks Slade is a girl. He is just too pretty to be a boy, but i never get huffy about it. I just correct them and they say "oh yea, I see his bow has a baseball on it. cute".

| You did nothing wrong - she was rude and annoying! Especially at a pet store - where I live people aren't overly friendly, but at the pet stores everyone is socializing. Don't let this experience deter you from approaching people. Even if I am in a hurry I stop talk to people who are nice enough to compliment my puppy.

That was a beautiful compliment. I would love to hear that about my "princess"! That lady was a crab, or maybe just having a bad day.

| I would be flattered if someone complimented my dog. I love being center of attention. LOL THat lady must have not been a friendly person or she lacks social skills. |

| I was hoping that was the case, because I like seeing other people's dogs! I think they are just gorgeous. I too am pretty shy, and I like having that common ground. I would be very sad if it is annoying or socially incorrect to comment on someone's puppy. It was definitely a princess... or if it was a prince, then she shouldn't dress him up in pink and then expect people to know the difference!!
