| Hello! I am sort of new. I got an e-mail telling me that YorkieTalk missed me so here I am introducing myself. I have been a member for a while but just don't post much. I have gotten some really wonderful info here in the past for my Maggie who was very ill. We live in Ohio. I am a stay at home mom, owned by four yorkies, Maggie, Bailey and Carson who are almost 3 yo and Tish who is 2 1/2 yo, and Molly who went to the Bridge July 8, 2004 at the age of 14. We also have a lab mix Buck who is 10+ and our newest edition a mix from the shelter Julie who is around 2 yo and being spade today, oh yes, and Avery the barn cat. Right now we are dealing with crystals in all of the yorkies urine, long story. Maggie is clear at the present, the others still have the crystals and we are trying to get them to drink more, hoping that is the cause. If anyone else has any experience with this I would love any advice you have to offer. |

| 4yorkies, welcome back to YT Tell us more about your babies' crystals...I have a lot of experience with stones/crystals, as my yorkie also gets these. There are several people on here who have also lots of experience with them and have dealt with stones/crystals. Did your vet tell you what kind of crystals they are? This is very important in determining the course of action you will need to take in order to get rid of the stones. You can send me a pm if you want.

| My Mickey just had Surgery to remove Crystals/ Stones Heres his story and all hes been through. I have a male and a female. Named Mickey and Minnie. ages 2 and 3 These are the sympotms I did observe..they started out unusual thirst, frequent urination,..vomiting up food, vomiting up bile Yellowish stuff.vomiting up blood, lethargic, glassy nasty eyes., generally depressed behaviour, stomach upset (such as growling rumbling noises) blood in urine, peeing in unusual spots/ to not peeing at all. diarrhea, peeing a lot- to straining to pee- to not being able to pee at all. They was both put on antibiotics witch seem to help my female, But My male got worse. I asked the vet to do a kidney funtion test, full; blood panel. and that turned out very low funtion Kidney function tests are done to evaluate the ability of the kidneys to function normally, this includes blood urea nitrogen (BUN) and cretnine Witch came back very low. urinary calcauli analysis we will have the nature of your pets crystals/stones analysed so we can make recommendations on how to prevent their reoccurance. So Please make sure you find out what stones your baby has inorder to give it the right prescription food for that stone. I asked for this test to be done also so they was sent off to a lab. Mickeys stones were he has 80% Calcium Oxalate Dihydrate and 20% calcium oxalate monohdrate. he is now on U/D presciption food. dry and can. They did xrays that showed him to have lots of crystals a lot of them being the size of sand. Its so much harder on a male to pass these stones even when small, because of the way the inside penis is shaped. The crystals could not go over the slant in the penis so they piled up there. My vet washed him out sedating him and puting in a cathider and then washing out the bladder in hopes to get those crystals out, after they did this three times three different days, it still did not help and he was still unable to pee. They then did Surgery to remove them. Please do not let your vet play the guessing game as my vet did, it only made my little boy suffer longer. The crystals need to be removed or they can die from it. My little boy is doing great now. Here are some of his threads , they may answer some question you might have a bout it all. If not you can also PM me and Ill try to answer what I can. ill keep your baby in my prayres. I was wondering sense all of yours are having stone trouble if they had been eating any of the recall foods? Here is the links to Mickeys stones and surgery pictures.
