| Should or shouldnt she Breed again??? Sunday, I was quite frantic. I am doing my research and "TRYING" to do everything right before I breed my lil girl , Peaches. She is 19 months and in her 2 cd heat. Yesterday was her 9 or 10th day in her heat. Well we had just got back from a walk and they our 3 yorkies and Golden. They had got dirty on the walk where they were playing around the pond. Sooooo right away after returning home my husband took our Golden down to our creek and was giving her a bath. I took, Peaches in my bathroom to give her one and my daughter took her furson in the other bathroom to give him one. Well after she was done I towel dried her and kept her in the bathroom while I washed dried and got dressed. I opened the bathroom door and she went flying out. My daughter had , Rascal (Furson) on her lap drying him. He jumped off immediately and on to her.. and I am telling you that quick we hollered for him to get off and he tried but they were tied. I was frantic because I was going to take her to the vet to be checked out to make sure she was capable of handling a Pg. I also wanted to wait till her 3rd heat. Anyway, Peaches & Racal were tied for around 5 minutes. I went screaming outside for my husband and he put cold water on them to get them separated. Now after talking to others they said He should not have done the cold water thing. Ugh They also said that we should let them tie again in fear she just has one pup and it would get to big for her causing her problems. Is there anyway you could help me and guide me to what to do??? Please no slamming, at this point what is, is. ... I need help deciding what is best from this point. I truly am trying and researching .. So if you want to slam .. dont post and leave the post to ones that would like to help. Now, I did talk to my vet today. I tried them yesterday but due to the Holiday they were closed. Now my vet told me to not breed her again because there is a chance she didnt get pg. Soooooo I am just confused Should or shouldnt I let her breed today??? Oh yeah, Peaches is between 4 to 4 and half pounds.

| I've never heard of the one pup problem. From what I know, 19 mos is a fine age and a 2nd heat is perfectly fine too. How much does daddy weigh??? There are more experienced breeders on here and, hopefully, you'll get some great advice. I'm really curious about the one pup being a problem though... Experienced breeders... your thoughts???

| I wouldn't worry too much about it. Sassy is 4-4 1/2 lbs and I bred her to a 2 1/2-3 lbs yorkie when she was 17 months (her 2nd heat). She had the easiest labor thank god. No problems at all. She had two pups. I've heard that the quantity of pups depends on how long/often they tied. How big was the male? Hopefully the male comes from a small generation so that the pups will be small enough for her to carry. The 9-12th day are the days to breed. If you want pups, I would have the vet look her over asap. Good luck to you! |

| My advice would be not to let them hook up again. Ideally you want the dad to be smaller than mom, as the pups can get too big and mom ends up with a C-Section. She's a little on the small size too. You normally want them to be at least over 4.5 lbs. If she is pregnant, you'll probably want to get x-rays before birth to make sure the pup is not to big to pass. There are more experienced breeders that could give you more info. I know exactly what you mean when you wrote how fast it happened. Those little boogers are like lightening when they want something. So be sure to keep close track of her heat cycles and don't let them in the same room when she's in heat! Only a door or a fence will keep them apart....LOL!

| i also agree she is too small. lets hope all goes well. just like someone mentioned earlier, get that xray to determine if the puppies will be too big for her. she may need a c-section. they really need to check her pelvis as well. i wish you all the luck in the world. i hope everything turns out fine. keep us posted

Missing Yoshi Everyday! Donating Member | it is possible for her to get pregnant just that one time...i am sorta going thru the same thing right now... i did everything to keep my male maltese and female maltese apart...when she goes out he goes in...vice versa... but i had a surprise last night...she gave birth to 1 healthy little girl...which i don't understand when and where it happen... and this is what is confusing me...because i know there was no way they could have mated..unless that 1 time when my fiancee let her out to potty and didn't realize my male was outside also..but it couldn't have been...that was too quick.. well i am just glad that everything went smoothly and she has a healthy little girl..

| Don't breed her again. Get advice from your vet for how to proceed in this situation. If she is not pregnant, and you still plan to breed her, mate her with a smaller male, rather than one that is larger. That is a major factor in her having a safer pregnancy and birth.

| I'm not a breeder, but I wouldn't breed her again, especially with this male. I think she's too small, and it's better to have the male smaller than the female. This might ease your mind a bit. My yorkie was an only pup, and his birth weight was 3.5 ounces. So, it's not always true that if there's only one pup, it will get too big. Good luck! |

| Thank you everyone, I wont breed her then. I just got confused when other breeders said that I should because of the chance of her only having one pup and if that happend it would be to big and cause her complications. My vet said to not anymore as well cuz he also new I would rather wait until I had her pelvis checked. He also said he wants to give her shots for something that helps her milk better for the pups. Not to mention I am still doing research and learning.. not that we dont ever stop learning, but I def. want more info. But thank you everyone, and THANKS so much for being kind and gentle with me ... I soooooooo appreciate it!!!

| I wouldn't breed her again, but I would keep a close eye on her and follow the advice that was given as far as an x-ray etc if she does turn up expecting. We had a singleton litter with our Autumn who was 5lbs and we lost the pup. Other people here have had singleton litters and the pups were just fine.
