| I've never seen red ants here, but in South Dakota my son who was only 2 at that time, walked thru a nest of them and they tried to eat him alive. It was really bad and he ended up in the hospital. The regualar ants are wonderful things to have in your yard because they eat flea larva. I'm so glad your poor little baby didn't get covered with those nasty red ants. Bless his little heart. By the way, what do you use to get rid of those things? |

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | POOR BABY !~ That's one reason I get upset about all the dogs people leave outside - especially tied up dogs.....I'm a fire ant freak - we have them bad here and I have a routine everymorning when I drink coffee and walk my yard - They really REALLY hurt ! I hope he calms down and glad you found that nasty ant |

| We don't really get rid of them -- we just move them around with Fire Ant Killers like Over and Out, Amdro, and MaxForce. Then we have to be just as careful the dogs don't go near the treated area for awhile.

| Beneficial nematodes will get rid of the fire ants and flea eggs in your yard. Just google benefical nematodes and you will get lots of information. Beneficial nematodes are a microscopic organism that lives in the soil in your yard and eats the ant, flea, termite and grub eggs, thus those pests don't live in your yard, if you use nematodes. I live in the heart of Texas where fire ants are KING. I have used the benefical nematodes for many years and have never had a fire ant mound in all that time - plus we do not have a flea problem and I do not use any chemical flea prodcuts in my yard or on my boys. If they get a flea from a walk outisde our yard, I use Dawn dish soap bath. The nematodes (microscopic) are completely harmless to pets, thus, I don't have to use any harmful chemicals around my babies. You can get benefical nematodes at your local ORGANIC garden store (not Home Depot or Walmart, or places like that) or you can order them online. They really work!
