| Help!!! Where to buy a yorkie I don't have a yorkie yet...but i do want to get one. I want a boy, and I already have a name picked out, Vince (he will be my baby, as i will not be having children.) I think I am going to wait until this semester finishes because I know I will be super busy studying. anyways i really don't know how to go about looking for reputable breeders. i live in Texas, around Corpus Christi, and there are not very many people out here who breed them. I did contact one women in the Corpus area (I got her ad off the akc website) but she has yet to contact me. so where do i go to get one? i really have had time to research this since i am out of school for the summer. i really can't drive so I cannot visit many cities where some breeders may be located...my only option was to have one shipped...i did find some puppies from puppyfind.com...but i don't know cause even though they have a website and show you pics...thats not the same thing as actually seeing where they were raised. if anyone has any advice on what i should do please let me know...thank you |

| Look in the yorkies for sale part of this site, and check on ytca website for reputable breeders. You might have a difficult time finding a reputable breeder, since many do not ship, and virtually ALL unreputable breeders do. Make sure to check back for advice from us here at yorkietalk, we are more than happy to help. Are you in high school, or college? Either way, if you'd like, you can send me a private message and I can give you some info and advice about being a student, and owning a yorkie.

| I forgot to say, the breeder that I got my Wobie from still has Wobie's brother. I have visited with the cute lil' 11-week-old guy three times and he is SO wonderful! (She is willing to ship her babies.) It might not work out for you, because you don't want one right away, but it might be worth checking out. Let me know if you're interested.

| Be careful on sites like puppyfind and nextdaypets. There are a lot of scammers out there! Yorkies are usually expensive dogs, so it's safe to assume that most ads for yorkies under $500, unless they are rescues, are scams. They tell you the same sad story: missionary in cameroon, not enough time to take care of the yorkie or the climate is bad for them. Also stay away from pet stores because those pups are usually bred in puppy mills and all that does is feed into the puppy mill's pockets. Research breeders online and if you find one that you think you like, post about them here and someone is bound to have some experience with them. Also, check your newspaper! I found my yorkie on washingtonpost.com!

| you might also look in the "featured yorkiess for sale" in addition to the regular for sale forum. just be aware that it is getting too hot to ship a puppy tho. the airlines will not ship if the temp is above 80. it is posted on their websites and they do check the temp at the originating point as well as the destination. |

| thanks thanks for the helpful info. I am in college, and just about to get my bachelors degree, I am visiting my twin sister here in Maryland. she is in the process of finding a yorkie too. i went with her to see this one puppy, and the lady met us in a parking lot, she had the puppies there, and they were so scared. i felt so sorry for them, what kind of people do that? anyways, long story short, she didn't buy the puppy, and now we are going to another lady's house (a breeder from the akc site) to see a puppy and his parents...so hopefully it will go much better. i am just sad that we had to leave that poor little guy in the parking lot i had wanted to get a little one before school starts up again...but i have been reading up and know that he will need a lot of attention, and my fall semester is going to be pretty rough. i just hope i can be strong enough to wait...i can't be selfish and just think about what i want...it is about what is best for him but thanks again...i will keep researching |

| I think you are right, as hard as it is, if you wait for the right time things will be so much easier for both of you. I speak from experience because I have had my little girl Zoe for 3 weeks now and she is only 16 wks old. She does require a lot of time and attention! I looked for a few months before I got her and I would only say be so careful of scammers! I saw several ads at first that I was excited about but quickly learned what to look for. They usually only accept western union or similar forms of payment and they usually don't talk to you on the phone. I told one woman who claimed to be in florida that I wanted my cousin to come by and take a look and she told me she didn't allow that but send your money right away via western union. Yeah, right. But over time and with the help of YT, I found a breeder who several other people here had recommended and I felt comfortable enough with to trust her judgement and have my baby shipped and for me it has been a wonderful experience. Zoe has an awesome personality and is just how she described. Of course, she sent photo's but all the babies are cute and it's so hard to choose! By the way, I got Zoe from Deb Sillers of Amazing Yorkies. Good luck and be sure to keep us all posted! |

| Have you tried the Yorkshire Terrier Club of America breeder referral? I got both of mine from breeders referred by the club and would recommend it. Here is the website. http://www.ytca.org/breeder3.html There is a breeder in Corpus Christi, TX. Good luck!

| I know how you feel. I've been literally waiting years for my yorkie. I didn't want to be in school all day or work all day when I got him, so I waited until I could get a schedule that would suit the both of us. Now I'm just waiting patiently. I'm going to go see a breeder in 2 weeks. Hopefully, I'll be able to take one home in mid July. *crosses fingers* |

| Vincerulz, they gave you great advice about going to the akc breeders page. I can tell you for sure there are several really good breeders listed there. I don't know all, but I do know that Rosanne from Rosemark, Bill or Gill from Riverwalk and of course, Mary from Mardeline's all have very nice dogs or can suggest other breeders if they don't have anything. They are all show breeders, but at times do have companion pups they will adopt out to responsible forever homes on limited registration (spay or neuter). Starting out early is great as it is sometimes a waiting game to get a good puppy from responsible breeders. Good luck in your search!
