| Stupid Question When a dog is neutered, is the entire area where the testicle was cut off or do they just remove the testicle and then stitch it back up? The reason I ask is because my neighbor's yorkie is neutered and I guess the entire 'thing' was cut off and mine isn't. I feel so embarassed asking this question but I am very curious and I don't think I'll be able to sleep if I don't get my answer! |

| When a male dog is neutered they make a small incision so they can go inside and remove the testicles, the incision is stitched closed and the sack where the testicles used to be eventually shrinks up and that area is then flat. |

It's a Yorkie Thing Donating Member | how they "Look" when they first come home depends on age. My Rat terrier was done early about 6months and he had "nothing left" when he got home. but when I adopted my Rott. from the pound he was older. about 1/2 years and it took him a little longer to shrink up. I thought they had forgotten to do the operation or something. I was not what I expected then, but now his the same as the rat terrier.

| Warning: This might be graphic, I worked as a vet tech in highschool. This only applies to male dogs. They make a small incision on the belly between the penis & the balls. then they press on the ball sack & the testicals pop out of the opening. Once visible they are tied off & amputated. The remaining part is pushed back into the hole & the hole is sued up. The whole precedure takes maybe 5 minutes. Since all dogs are different swelling & the amount of extra skin would account for the difference in appearance.

| Thank you so much. I was beginning to think that I paid for the neutering and got nothing. I was thinking that they only cut him up and then stitched him back without doing anything. |
