| Anyone have wood floors? I have two yorkies and am looking to sign a contract on a new house. I would love to have the cherry wood floors in the kitchen, and throughout most of the main floor. My yorkies are not trained, and I really don't think they ever will be (but who knows), but if they miss the pad or have an accident, will it destroy the flooring? They are home in an x-pen all day by themselves, so I won't be around to clean up quickly if they miss. Thanks for the input! |

| I have had wood floors since I got both Rex and Rowdy. Rowdy is not neutered so he will always mark. He has marked the wood floors plenty of times with absolutely no issues - however, my wood floors have LOTS of wood grain and differing colors. I don't think there have been any spots, but I can't be absolutely sure. There has been no warping of any kind. Rowdy doesn't pee a bit pool though, he just sprinkles a few marks. Both he and Rex are trained to go outside and they don't have to stay in a pen, there is always someone here at the house and if we are all gone at the same time (a rarity) then I keep them in the den which has a stained concrete floor - this floor is a GODSEND when training puppies - all my pups are confinded to the big den with the concrete floor until they are at least 75% trained. I will have to say that Rex is neutered and so when he "goes" it is a big pool (well big for a 6 lb Yorkie ) and as such, if he were peeing on the wood floor - which he never does, he never goes in the house - then it might be more of an issue. Good luck with your decision. If you keep this bumped to the top, you will get lots of responses - many of us have ripped out our carpet and put down wood, laminate or tile.

| I have wood floors everywhere except my kitchen (witch is porcelain and my stairs are carpeted because my pug could not get up/down them and my kids were always slipping down them). Thankfully none of my animals have had any accidents on the wood floor (Knock on wood) they are all outdoor trained. My girlfriend has them also and her dog has had many accidents on them and yes it has started to take a toll on the floor. Maybe you could get a litter box or I see some YTers have really neat tents and you could put something on the floor in that and then the pads. Good luck, I know its hard, you love your furbabies so much but you don't want them to destroy your new home! |

| Ugh I have wood floors, and my problem is not with Mickey having accidents all over the place... When we are gone, he digs in his water bowl leaving a puddle of water on the floor in his ex-pen. Well... Mickey now lives on a giant hill, in the middle of my bedroom because the water warped the floors so bad. Not too sure what I am going to do about this one yet.....

| I have hardwood floors throughout my home, and it sure makes cleaning up accidents or misses A LOT easier. However, you have to make sure you clean them up quickly because the urine can eat through the finish on the wood.

| If they're in an x-pen all day, you might want to line the whole bottom with newspaper or pee pads. Urine will eat through the finish. It won't do any damaged if it's on for like, 30 seconds and you clean it up, but if the dog peed at 9am and you're not home till 4pm to clean that up... well it's going to ruin your floors! Also like someone else said, some floors absorb moisture and become warped. |

| I have the solution to all of your problems...lol No really. I use the pishpad!! Anyone heard of it? I bought a huge roll of it and I can cut it to any sizes I want. Sooooo I can line the xpen area and put a peepad on top. If they miss or it seeps through the peepad, the floor is protected! AND these are WASHABLE! Some use them as a peepad but I use them as a liner. I put them under every peepad and line the pens with them I think it is simply www.pishpad.com ?? I highly recommend, if you can't tell!

| woodfloors I haven't had cupcake long she is only 6 months. I have seen no problems yet. What helps is that I keep babywhips in teh house for her. They are quick clean up! I would get a liter box also. |

| I put a $1 shower curtain liner from the dollar store under the expen with pee pad on top. I throw it in the wash once a week. My wood floors are fine. They are natural sealed wood though, not laminate. So I don't know if it would make a difference?

| I have wood floors and I think it makes those little mishaps easier to clean. If I had carpet I would be on my knees more. Good Luck |

| The urine will destroy wood flooring if you can't get it up ASAP. Is it possible to take one of the bedrooms and put Pergo flooring in? Nothing hurts that stuff and it looks exactly like wood. Then you could put up one of those mesh inside doors to the room and let them have that room. Put a cat window seat at the window with a steps for them. They love looking out. Then Give them a TV with animal planet on low. I'd also have someone take them for long walks during the day too. |

The pishpad sound wonderful. I was able to bring the site up, but none of the links are working. Is it expensive? Maybe I'll be able to bring the links up later.
