Donating YT 2000 Club Member | Will a hyper dog ever calm down? I am talking extreme hyper. She is obsessed with playing catch. We were working building a deck yesterday and I threw Jinny's ball over and over from 9am until 9pm. When we came into the house she was still crazy and I had to hide ALL the toys! Jazzy is 6 months old and he can't even keep up with Jinny. She will be 2 in July but when she gets older will she start calming down or always be like this? I don't mind to play with her but 12 hours a day is a bit much.

| Have you had her spayed, if not maybe that would help. Maybe it is just her personality. You can try talking to your vet and see if there are any techniques you can use at home. How about a long walk to burn off some of her energy. Good luck |

| I totally understand what you are going through... When we first got Kizzy she was way hyper and I think that was alot of the reason that she was rehomed. BUT there is HOPE!!!! We have had her for 3 months now and she is 15 months old, and she is NOW very Calm and only get hyper when we go outside and have free 4 all with both girls playing catch. Yes she will calm down but you have to train her to. Just stop playing catch with her after about an hour and tell her to lay down and relax. If she doesnt lay down, then lay her down and sit by her and make her stay. after you do this several times she will get the idea. And then just keep doing it after your play session each time. It will be come a habit and she will learn that after we play awhile then we lay down and have calm time. Kizzy learned this very quickly.. Sorry for the book, just wanted to try and explain it so you could understand my mumblin...LOL Good luck! |

| Katy is the same way. She will be 2 in July. Day care twice a week helps a lot. She plays and runs laps with the other dogs. |

this is what my vet told me. he told me to train him to settle down. i have yet to do this though cause Walker is getting out of control... i know this is bad but sometimes i feel like rehomeing him because he is just way over the top. but i wanna work with him first. but i'm trying to get the potty training done first. he also is always bothering Troy. biting she handles him better now by bitting his ears. but my vet said he will calm down some but not much. i was also thinking of maybe trying calming pills??? anybody ever use those? it says on the bottle use to discourage unwanted behavior.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Hahhhhhhh! So true. Wylie is a fetchaholic and I truly mean it - he could fetch every minute he's awake. We taught him the command "all done". Now, we'll be fetching for a while and then we'll say "all done", he grabs his toy, lays down and mouths it. Guests really love it for some reason. They do calm around 2 years old - but for some reason, I think fetchers just love to fetch, it is in their terrier blood after all.

| These little guys LOVE to play!! Jake isn't hyper all the time, but he has his moments. He's still a puppy at 10 mos. He would play fetch all day long, but he also knows if I'm busy, he sometimes has to just play by himself near me. He plays very well by himself, and that's probably because he was an only puppy. He gets alot of playtime with us because I play with him alot during the day, my hubby and son play with him in the eves when I'm working. I've also been taking him for walks since the weather is nicer, and he loves to play outside. I take him out and let him run off some energy everyday, and he is much calmer all the time. He has always been a really good sleeper at night, but with the extra exercise he's been getting, he's OUT lol |

| When I had my biiiig dog Inka (Leonberger) she was very hyper too what is very uncommon for this breed. My cousin is a Vet and he told me that it might have to do with the food she got and that she needs more protein. After switching her to a high protein diet she calmed down and was the sleepyhead she was supposed to be.... |

| I feel your pain. It's rough, but most of them do settle down. Sadie did around 1 1/2, and then again some more closer to 2. Don't worry....it should get better.
