| if he is shedding and it is not because of a skin irritation or fleas or something like that, go to wal-mart in the pet section and buy some brewers yeast. we have a min pin that sheds like CRAZY and it has pretty much put a stop to it. now...during season changes, there is nothing we can do about shedding other than brushing. but once the season changes settle down, the brewers yeast nixes the shedding for us. is your baby full yorkie? they are not supposed to shed but I guess you never really know...

| I agree...it may be the food or other allergies. Yorkies should not be shedding!!!! not if they are full yorkie. Let us know if you find anything out. We found out that our min pin Rex is allergic to turkey. so any turkey in his food makes him gag a lot. so you never know, it could be anything. It certainly is not normal for them to shed so something is not right...

| I am definitely going to need to find out because he is a pure yorkie. I am feeding him Nutro Lamb and Rice Puppy Food. It is the same type of food breeder was giving him. I noticed his shedding the first day I brought him home actually. If you hold him hair will get all over your shirt. When I comb him hair will come off onto the comb in clumps and he still sheds after he has been combed. His shedding is minimal compared to other dogs I had growing up, but nevertheless he is shedding. Thank you guys so much for suggestions. I am very happy I joined the Yorkie Talk Family! |

| Wow I've had 3 yorkies total and none ever shed. Not even when they were really tiny. That's one thing I love about yorkies. I really don't know any reason why a Yorkie would shed. If he is purebred and I saw that you answered yes. Then there has to be another reason. Allergic reaction to food or something else. What type of hair texture does your yorkie have? Do you have more than 1 yorkie or just one. Genie |

| Don't panic yet...how old is your Yorkie? Yorkies do go through a shedding stage when they're changing from their puppy coat to their adult coat. Some people notice it more than others but as soon as the puppy hair is gone they stop shedding. I think my boyz went through it between 5 and 8 or 10 months if I remember right. Hopefully that's all it is with your Yorkie and there are no health issues. |

| Don't worry as my two purebred 6 month old Yorkie's have shed since we got them as well . I have talked to a couple groomers and our vet and they say this is normal ...until their adult fur comes in . Mine get good food and I use a high-end shampoo on them , comb them daily and just put up with the loose hair ! |

| Sammy is my first and only yorkie and he is 15 weeks old. He still has the soft puppy coat. So I don't know what type he will have yet- actually I don't know how to tell. I thought he might just be shedding his puppy coat before his adult coat comes in. Sammy's breeder sent me an article on causes of shedding and the top 2 were fleas and allergies. I never saw a flea on him, but my husband said he saw one- so we got him advantage about a week ago. Does anyone know how to tell if it is an allergy to his food? I am using the same type the breeder was using. |
