| Can she feed 6 puppies?? Hi, I'm new here, and finally figured out how to post a message, I only pray that I will be able to find the answers!! Anyway, my Yorkie delivered an amazing 6 puppies on Friday night, ranging in weights from 20 grams to 13 grams... I am concerned about the weight gain of the little one, how much should she gain each day? When should I consider using a milk supplement, if at all, and what kind? Where do you get such small nipples? Please advise ASAP! I live in Israel and don't have too many people who really understand Yorkies. thanx Last edited by lilliput; 06-01-2005 at 01:18 PM. |

| Lilliput congrats in the litter of 6. Wow 6 babies, i love it. I know you will get some good info from the breeders here. Good luck. Will love to see pics of the sextuplets. I dont have experience breeding or taking care of litter of pups. I want to wish you the best of luck and say that is great that you are getting information. I guess your vet will be able to help you better than me. |

| lilliput congrats on your new litter 6 is a large amount for your mom to feed...I suggest feeding mom besides her regular dry puppy food, 3 -4 small meals a day mixed with rice or pasta and chicken or turkey add veggies also feed her cottage cheese, cheese, yogart, goats milk. Keep a close eye on her how she eats if she isnt eating as much as she should consult your vet about giving her extra calcium, if needed. I am a bit confused on the weight you state grams and 20 grams equals less than 3/4's of an ounce, I believe. if thats right wow tiny tiny babies mine usually weigh average 2-3 oz at birth... if you feel the need supplimenting get puppy milk "esbilac" (I add goats milk they tend to like the taste better) you can either feed through a syringe or a baby bottle. Main thing is that mom eats enough all the time to keep up with the puppies demands. How much does your mom weigh? I hope this helps

| First, congrats on such a big litter. BUT, keep an eagle eye on your mom feeding so many. She needs extra calcium maybe up to 100-200 mgm a day. Eclampsia can set in in these little ones and your mom could be in trouble before you know it. YorkieRose almost lost a mom and she had been right in the room with her...Temp rises, seizures start and they need vet care right away. If you already know al of this, please scuse me.. Of course, we are waiting for pics.. |

| eclampsia is a very very scary thing I had it with Hattie, I felt so helpless and so scared for my little mom and she only had four. I've now have "calsorb" on hand along with a large bottle of tums and of course my vets home number taped to the calsorb box.

| thanks for all the great information and help!! I don't have a digital camera (yet) but I have a scanner and will send pics soon as \i can. The mom weighs about 3 kg (a little over 10 pounds) I changed the scale to pounds and the littlest one weighs 4 ounces, so I guess she is ok (5 days old) and is slowly gaining weight. (she put on 2 grams to her 13 grams, now a hefty 15 grams the piggy) Mom doesn't eat dry food at all (spoiled bitch) only chicken and beef, rice. I work in an old age home and have a good supply...meanwhile, she looks great, is running around a little more but really watching over her babies. I will buy her calcium today. \ Once again, thanks for all the great info...please keep in touch, I will post pics ASAP. Lisa |

| Finally figured out how to post pictures, and put in an avatar ( with the assistance of my genius son-kids can do anything on the computer, I'm lucky if I can turn it on) So you can go to the gallery to see all 6 puppies. Lisa |
