| How To Stop Barking??? Scooter has always been a barker, he has this load high pitched bark, that goes all through you. Last night my husband had to bring home a Belgian Shepard, she will be his police dog. She did fine, she is a sweet heart. We put her in my sons room in her kennel, did not hear a peep out of her all night. Scooter barked all night. I couldn't hear anything, I think he was just letting us know she was hear. My question is how do I stop this barking, he barks at everything. My husband works 2 jobs, so being kept up all night with him barking isn't going to work. He was a little cranky this morning. Any suggestions would be appreciated. T Thanks Kay |

| I know just what you are going through...my Bella is a very high pitch barker and its like someone is peircing my brain with a knife. The only thing that I find that kinda works is if I do what the dog whisperer says and stand right OVER HER when she is barking and point my finger at her and make that cccchhhhhtttttt sound....it seems to make her surrender a bit. The only bad thing is that there are some situations that I cant really be standing over her at the time that she starts barking....sooooo I dont know what else to tell you but I cant wait to hear your replies and maybe someone can help us both. lol Good luck!

| ....oh the joys of barking dogs ! ....our three yorkies aren't bad, but our bearded collie, Tasha is a nightmare. ....she barks at her shadow, any noise, the cooker, (as she doesn't like it) the washing machine, the birds, the pan-cupboard,(the clanging) the wheelie-bin, my rabbits,(they scuttle) the vaccume cleaner, the postman, etc, etc. etc ....she sings to the Dr Zivago theme tune of the ice-cream van, and sings to me saying "do peepees" to the yorkies ! ....oh, and the mouth-organ ! (we like the singing though - it's like a wolf howl and it's cute, and she loves to do it as she waggs her tail saying how clever she is !) ....nothing works on the barking though - she is hyper sensitive, and we are hoping she is going to go deaf in her old age, lol (Our last Beardie did !.....Tasha is nearly 6) .....don't try the beeping collar....it makes no difference and is expensive and a waste of money. .....Police dog handlers said squirting lemon at her everytime she barked would work - and aim it at her nose - it didn't, she would bite the lemon and sneeze, and end up with a crusty dried in lemoned nose ! .....telling her off hasn't worked, and nor does positive reinforcement. .....I think our only hope is that she goes deaf in her old age ! | Today at puppy school, our teacher said that dogs often bark because they have nothing better to do. They need a job. She said that dogs seldom bark when lying down. Get your dog into a down, stay. Hopefully that will stop the barking, at least for a while.

| Did you watch Cesar's Milan DVD ? I watched the whole season 1 and I understood his attitude when dealing with dogs . When I go outside Royce starts to bark so all what I have to do is go back and being very calm and assertive I tell him twice " hey no stop " and he stopped barking .... I wish I rented the DVD earlier this year....Last september I had to spend a fortune on dog behaviorist to teach me how to make Royce stop barking and crying whenever I left for work.... |

| YES! YES! YES! This is what worked for Mickey. I only had to use it a few times. He would bark, I would spray him with the spray bottle, while saying "No Barking". He doenst bark too much now, but when he does I just say "No barking" and he stops right away. Give it a try |

| We are working on that issue right now as well. Percy is turning into a little bit of a barker. Our trainer told us a few things. First, to find a word (we use FREEZE) to get his attention and say it in a stern voice. Then as soon as he stops, praise like crazy and give a tiny treat, and that a lot of times, they are trying to get attention, they might be bored, or scared, or trying to get someone (even the noises outside) to play with them, so that we should redirect him, give him a toy that he should be playing with, just somethihng to do...and when he plays nice, reward again. It seems to be working with Percy right now....so I hope it keeps up. Good Luck!

....she absolutely hates water - even if you get it to spray at her, she will just bark more and keep biting and barking at the bottle and the spray....different story at the sea though - she can't get enough of water then, lol .....with Tasha, water spray=barking and biting, until you put it away - even if you are saying no barking ! ......she's the same with the hose-pipe, another of her hates ! ....sorry - might work for some, but not this big woolly mammoth !!! ....glad she's my hubby's dog....long live the yorkshire terrier, i say Last edited by HighlandYorkies; 04-14-2007 at 06:17 PM. | |

| shaker can My three girls used to bark their little brains out. I got a metal ball (an empty coke can will work too) and put a few pennies in there. It is sealed so the pennies don't come out. when the girls started their barking i shook that can right over them and said QUIET in a VERY stern voice. They stopped immediately! Every time they started barking, i shook the can and said QUIET. Now all i have to do is say QUIET, and they shut up. I keep the can handy and have only had to shake it a couple of time after that. They don't bark hardly at all now...at least i can control it with the shaker can. Yorkie ears are very sensitive so this really gets their attention fast and they stop. Hope it helps you guys out too! |

| I've heard about the rock or coins in a can and to shake it loud in their ears and they usually stop. I've also read where it was suggested to use vinegar and water in a spray bottle. They hate the taste and usually stop barking. I haven't tried it, Kodak only barks when someone comes thru the door.
