| getting my pup on sunday and now im freaking out! looking around the house trying to puppy proof it! shes 9 weeks. should i put her harness and lead on here and wrap her in a fleecy blanket for the two hour ride home? shes only had one injection, im guessing shes gonna need toilet breaks, shall i put her on newspaper on the floor for a wee? what shall i do with her when i get her home for the first time, let her sniff around. when do i put her in the crate for the first time and how long for? im going to put the crate at bed height so if she wines i can put my fingers throught the bars... what else can u suggest. what should i do with her on her first day here with us? apart from give kisses cuddles and take pictures!

| What worked for me was buying a playpen. I would put a small dog dish in there with food and water, wee wee pads, a small bed and some toys. That way, if anyone couldn't watch the puppy she was nice and safe in there. It helped with potty training through the night(until she was big enough to sleep in bed with me and I didn't have to worry about her falling down steps or getting hurt. I wasn't sure how the wee wee pads would work with me housebreaking her but she's a year old and completely house trained. She scratches on the door to ask to go out(she was potty trained very early). I'd notice that if I left the house the wee wee pads were still dry so I'd take her outside as soon as I got home. Then slowly I started taking the pads away and she could hold it. I'd never be gone for long of course. Good luck!

Since she's only had one vaccine (what i'm assuming you mean by one injection) you can still take her outside to potty if thats what you want to do. Potty training starts as soon as you get home. Its ok for her to go outside if on a leash and only to go to the potty spot. Carry her in and out and put her in the location you want her to go. Or if you want to pee pad train her then you can do that as well. you can use newspaper or buy wee wee pads from the pet store. Depends on how you want to housebreak. There are lots of different ways people do it on here. From the get go i took morgan strictly outside. crate training is another thing that people have different opinions on because yorkies are so small. I already knew what i was going to do and it pretty much resembled what can be found on Sylvan's website. http://sylvanyorkies.com/puppycare.htm stacy has excellent advise for alot of things on that page. When your pup first gets home its ok to let her explore her new environment but be prepared for possible accidents. I live in the basement of my house and morgan only saw the floor of my huge room for the first month. I'd carry her upstairs but never put her down until she was alittle better about holding her pee. You don't have to put the crate at bed height to begin with. First i'd try leaving the crate on the floor in your room or wherever you want to to eventually sleep and see how that goes. She is probably going to whine at first. Try ignoring her first to see if she'll stop. You don't want to encourage bad behavior by answering her every whine. She'll just learn that if she whines in the crate mommy is going to come save her or give her attention. Even bad attention is still attention to them and they don't care as long as someone is standing there with them. the first day she's home is gonna be a doozie for her. she's not going to remember much becuase she's so overwhelmed. the only training i'd do is with the potty training and where you want her to pee. other then that, give her lots of hugs and kisses and take lots of pictures. give her a few days to settle in before you start anything else with her also she may have diarrhea the first day or two she is there because of the environment change. take a stool sample to the vet when you go just in case she has intestinal parasites.

| Only thing I want to add is when you got to bed and if she is in a crate you may want to cover it, it will help alot and she will go to sleep.

| I am so happy and excited for you. Teddy Bear slept on a blanket on my lap for a 3 1/2 hour drive home. I guess I should add that Daisy (6 mos old) worried the entire drive home that we were bringing this little intruder to her house.

| There is no reason to be so upset and looking all over the house for anything that can harm your puppy, when you should have an expen set up and attached to a wire crate. Wee-wee pad at on end, a water bottle attached to the pen and some chew toy. Take the puppy outside every hour and praise when she potty's. Never let a puppy run around the house. When you sit down at night to watch TV. have the puppy on the chair or sofa with you with a nice little femur bone that has been boiled and cleaned first. Continue takeing the puppy outside every hour or even less. |

| You also might want to be prepared for the possibility your new baby getting car sick! Puppies aren't used to the movement and especially if she's scared to begin with her tummy might get upset!
