Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Lifting leg at 4 months? My little guy, Marcel, sometimes squats if he's in the middle of a pad - but often he'll lift his leg if at the edge of a pad and/or near a border. Is this normal at 17wks or does it indeed mean his hormones are starting ALREADY???? He's only 1lb. 4oz. - he's not a man yet!!!!!

| LOL my little guy started lifting his leg very early too. It was kinda cute at first because he was so tiny and doing it but not so cute anymore. |

| My vet told me that leg lifting has less to do with hormones and more to do with dominance. Dominant, Alpha males will left their leg to pee to mark their territory. Submissive males tend to stay squatters. Looks like you've got yourself an alpha male on your hands! |

I Love My Lil' Punkin's Donating Member | Hehe my best friend's Yorkie is the same age and she called me a couple of days ago freaking out because she saw him lift his leg for the first time, and now she has seen him do it several times since then lol. She was in shock because she didn't think they should be lifting their leg at that young of an age, but I told her that yes - it does happen. Stedman didn't start lifting his leg until MUCH later - I don't even remember how old he was (I know, I'm a bad mommy ) but I know it wasn't that early

| My Otis lifted his leg at that age. Even after he was neutered he still hikes. He has some dominant traits but is not a typical alpha. He is more likely to be a watchdog, but He allows my shih-poo to kind of rule the food bowl. His dominance is when he's outside. He has never come in contact with a cat but has still managed to develop a STRONG hatred for them. He wants to hunt and run and most of the time he will not come in when I call him. I think if we had nice weather all the time he would love to be an outside dog.(don't worry, no chance!!) He was even kind enough to teach my shih-poo to hike his leg. I use potty pads and put 2 liter bottles on them for hiking posts. It really works. My friend's male dog squats at home, but when he comes over to visit, he succombs to peer pressure and hikes his leg like my boys. It cracks her up.
