Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | What is a "cobby" body? I've seen this term a bit and though I think I may gather what it means, can someone tell me for sure? Many thanks, Ann |

| I think it describes more square, 'packed' look as opposed to long and lean. but I may be wrong

| Great question. I would like to know how that decision is made though as I think mine are on the tad of being long. Not real long, just a little long. Is this based on any one's opinion or is there a certain forumla you apply here?

Cobby \Cob"by\, a. [From Cob, n.] 1. Headstrong; obstinate. [Obs.] --Brockett. 2. Stout; hearty; lively. [Obs.] That last part is what cobby refers to in pups -- short and stout. But if you use the first definition ..... well that can apply to just about all! LOL! The standard for Yorkies is a compact, neat body. The CKC and UKC go on to say "Square and evenly or well proportioned." So, if you see one advertised as cobby -- I would ask them what they mean by it. Is the pup "square" or shorter in height than length? Square is the standard -- but many prefer the short-legged pups. All up to you.

| cobby I'm only speaking from my experience with the Fox Terrier breed here but cobby means the animal is as long as it's tall; as in fitting into a square. btw length of back is from the withers to the base of the tail. So short legs have nothing to do with it. A Great Dane can be cobby [tho, I don't know if that would be to their standard ] Karen |
