Which combination works best? We're planning to get a friend for Jo-Jo in the near future...he's our 6 month old (tiny) male. My question is this...which combination works best for you...2 males or a male and female? They would be companions only so both will be neutered/spayed. Would it be bad to have 2 males as buddies or is it o.k. if they're neutered? Would 2 males fight if they're neutered or is that only a risk if they're intact? I want to be open minded about a male or female because you never know what may become available...I just want ot know or at least have an idea as to what I can expect.

I think for me if I were spaying or neutering them both, I'd get the same sex. It really doesn't matter or, come to think of it.......... Do you like to dress your baby? If so a boy and a girl would be nice! Sylvia

Well, I gave Jo his foo-foo last night and put a red clip in his hair and boy did I catch grief over that! Not from Jo...he just ignored it...it was from my husband, daughter-in-law, her sister-in-law, my grandson and his friend. So, I took it out and I don't think there will be any 'dressing up' going on around here unless it's me! LOL! I thought he looked kind of cute and it matched his little red collar.

I Actually asked the same thing when I was looking for Oreo's Companion. I didn't want to get a boy because since Oreo was Alpha Male.. he's get quite jealous. he Was 4 months old when we Got Ginger, And she was also 4 months old at the time.. And we just added a new Member, a new baby girl only 10 weeks and so far so good. I'm not planning on Spaying/Neutering My dogs, call me crazy, but i don't want to, there will be people who will tell me to, object with me.. but it's my decision, none of my dogs are going to the shelter either, so i'm not worried. But I think it's a great thing your getting a companion for Jo-Jo! Oreo was so lonely, i couldn't ever leave him alone! but once I Got Ginger, it was like they didn't need me!.. only for belly rubs, food, potty etc.. they are even more happier i got a third! So good luck when you do get yours, whichever Gender you decide!

I have a 1 year old neutered male and we just got a female companion (she will be spayed) for him. She was 12 weeks when she came home (17 weeks now). I had asked about the combinations also and since I already had a male, a lot of people told me to go with a female. They said that even though Tino was not really Alpha before and didnt have any marking issues, that by bringing in another male, it could cause him to be aggressive and that he could start marking due to the fact that you don't know if the new male puppy is going to be Alpha personality. That had a lot to do with my decision bc I just didnt want to take any chances. I can say that I LOVE having one of each! She has a very bossy and cute female personality... she has no idea that she is half his size and she just runs him around like crazy and he LOVES it! They are so cute together and they snuggle and play! Good luck in your search! I think you will be really happy having two of whatever gender you choose! I don't feel those guilt pangs every time I leave him now bc I know he & Bunny have each other to keep each other company!

oh I'm so glad for you Yorkie Girl! Congratulations on your third baby. Where did you find a breeder? And is the new baby a yorkie too? Oh, boy I'm so excited for you. I want another one...a yorkie again... but I don't know of any breeder close by. Any suggestion? And how much?...If you won't mind...

Don't forget yorkshire terriers are typical dogs and if two males fight they will have a snarly scrap but two females can fight to the death. Many rescue organisations will not place two females in a home because of this. A male/female combination is best IMO.

Thanks everyone. We're going to keep an open mind about this because you just never know. I guess the disposition of the Yorkie will play a part also. Jo is pretty laid back and is loving and accepting of everyone and all other animals so far and I hope he stays that way. He really wants a buddy and my husband says he 'needs' one...he just doesn't wear out!
