Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | Funny but REAL Problem Hi y'all...I have a question - I know it's a strange one but I'm here to tell you I've been dealing with it for 2 years now and it's just started again here in Texas. It's a TOAD problem ...I'm not kidding - this is Toad season - not poisonous toads but ANNOYING toads - they come out at night in my back yard in Masses - I have THREE Toad hunters because of this...My girls are outside trained so they HAVE to use the yard to do their business - but now they want to hunt and catch & play with toads every time they go out - and I have no idea how to rid my yard of these UGLY things. My cocker sits at the window waiting for a froggie friend to hop by - and Owwwiiiieeees till I HAVE let her out - then of course the yorkie kids are awake and want out too - They are TOAD Terrorists - So now I have 3 dogs on the hunt and I'm out there in the middle of the night in my jammies Toad Tossing these suckers into my neighbors yard with a little plastic pot. Once I let them all out - they don't want to come in - This is a nightly thing - and I'm not kidding - EVERY NIGHT - last year I spent more time tossing toads then I did posting on yorkie sites ! I get My "Trusty Toad Tossing Gear", and run out to them, trying to catch the freakin toad....I catch it - I ALWAYS CATCH IT - no matter how long it takes chasing it, and THROW IT waaaaaaaay into my neighbors yard, (and throwing out my back at the same time) and on a really exciting night - there might be 2 or 3 of these ugly things ! I give myself a bonus for tossing 2 ! SOME toads are poisonous but from the first time they got one and I panicked and called emergency - I was told in TX they are NOT, but can cause tons of drooling - They weren't KIDDING ! My poor girls spend 10 minutes if they get one smackin their lips and drooling all over theirselves... Does ANYONE know a toad repellant I can try ??? PLEASE ??? I've tried EVERYTHING I can think of - stuffed up the holes in the house - put salt down - cut all the high grass and hiding places and I'm STILL toad tossing...lol...(these things can really FLY).... but they come BACK....Why do they like my yard so much ?

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | I want to add that this nightly ritual starts at 8 pm till almost 6 AM ...so there is no way I can keep them in till the toads go to sleep for the day...I'm dreading this summer.... I didn't tell this story to be funny - I've called animal control for advise and they laughed at me ..lol. and I don't blame them - ..I just need to hear if anyone else has this problem and how did you solve it ????

| Maybe you better check with your neighbor, maybe she is throwing the toads back by day? I'm sorry, I don't mean to leap at you. I'm near Dallas, we don't have frogs hear, I guess that's lucky. We have little gecko's, the dogs don't really notice them. I find dead ones are in the pool, or the cats leave them all over the patio (at least they are easy to catch)

| Well, I can tell ya they have hatched in hoards here in North Central Texas too. That is one critter I will go WAY out of my way, before I get close to one. To me, they are nothing but a hopping gut. I have two Koi ponds. They love to make woo woo in my ponds. Well here I am with a LONG HANDLE dip net---scooping the lovers out. Yep, you are right, they do fly---even when they are still hooked together during woo woo. I have seen heavy toad seasons before and when I do, there is usually a heavy grasshopper season. Somehow Mother Nature tries to balance out things. Last night around midnight, Maggie saw her first toad. Oh crap, it was like she was on a killing mission. Good thing I had her on a leash. She pulled so hard, the only thing left on the ground was her back toe nails. I think the only way to keep them out of the yard it to put up a slick surface fence. About a month ago, hubby was sitting out on the sundeck early one morning. He was watching this really fat toad. All of a sudden a big hawk swooped down and snatched the toad up. Got rid of one anyway. Oh about toads being poison. A friend of mine had a cocker that hated frogs. The dog actually swallowed one. He was on his deathbed at the animal hospital for a week. My cocker, many years ago learned how to pick them up by the head and carry them to her bed. That was a big CRAP. When she first learned about frogs, she would just grab them in her mouth. Well, it didn't take her long to figure out that they were PP-ing her her mouth. That is where all the drool, foam, gagging, etc. comes from. If you come up with something, holler real loud. I'm just to the North of you. |

| Only toad predator I know of is snakes...and I think I would rather have toads than snakes! Makes you feel like you are in the middle of a biblical plague don't it? I am a native Texan myself and lived in Houston in the early 80's...and yes, there are lots of toads around there! I don't know what to tell you to do...as long as there are bugs and grass and water, toads are right at home!

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | Stitches - A Hopping GUT ? Eeeewwwww ! Thanks for the visual ! lol ... I did NOT know that about swallowing them ! My cocker has yet to ever catch one - they can jump right next to her nose and she's always looking the other way - That's why her name is THE CLUELESS TOAD HUNTER - but she started all this 5 years ago and it's now a summertime ritual...So far I have never seen them actually pick on up but they sure try to make them hop ! Oh...and I've never seen them fly on their own - I'm their mode of transportation - Me and My Pitching Arm ...and I have them in the front yard as well as back - LOTS AND LOTS of them - It's so gross ! Do they really FLY ??? naw....only when I throw em !

I have just one tiny off the wall question. For the past two nights, Maggie has had the dry heaves for about 30 seconds. Nothing comes up. She just went to the vet yesterday for her last series of shots. Is this sometimes common? | |

| Be careful what you wish for. Once I wished my human boys could talk - now I just keep wishing they would shut up (I must have used up all my wishes). The only things my babies say to me are stuff like: 'I love you mommy' 'you are the best mommy in the world' 'come hold me' Unfortunately I can't quote the teen boys- I think it would be illegal online
