Question Hi guys, if you haven't read my thread before, I'm new to the forum, my name's Kristen and my 6-month old puppy is Sadie. I actually have a question, and I'm looking for all of your opinions. How do you all feel about keeping a yorkie's hair short? I know they are known for their beautiful, long, silky hair, and my boyfriend and I are trying to decide whether we want to keep it long or short...I think she'd look cute both ways....do any of you keep your yorkie's hair short? Let me have it, I'm all ears. --Kristen

We're keeping our's hair short. It's just easier as far as grooming and I don't want to put her through the pain of having to comb out mats everyday. We have found a groomer who does a really cute puppy cut and that's the way we're keeping it. Actually he does the body in a "lamb" cut which means the legs are kept somewhat longish and the puppy cut part is the face, they cut it sort of roundish. Very cute and a lot less trouble than letting it grow out. Last edited by Sweetums; 04-02-2007 at 03:27 PM.

I know it's all a matter of personal preference but I prefer Yorkies in long coat. I'm growing my girl's coat out and at first it was hard dealing with her puppy coat (with mats and whatnot). But once a substantial amount of her adult coat came in it was so easy as it never mats. However, not all Yorkie coats are manageable so it's really about if you have the time to groom her and how difficult her hair is to maintain. If you don't have a lot of time to devote to grooming and/or her coat is extremely hard to manage I'd say go for the puppy cut.

keeping it short will probably be ALOT easier for u both. plus she could play all she wants without getting mats & knots, especially as a pup

I keep Angel in a puppy cut. I'm letting Prince's hair grow out a little bit but not too long. I'll probably go back to the puppy cut with him this summer too. I agree they are very pretty long, but I'd rather not deal with the grooming.

long vs. short hair I think it is a matter of personal preference. We have a 22 mo old female cotton-hair and she is kept in a modified Schnauzer cut. It looks adorable and she looks like a puppy all the time. It wouldn't do for a show dog, but for our lovely pet to be clean, free of matting and not always being brushed---it is perfect.

Yeah, I think shorter hair might be the way to go, seeing as how we both work, and she's not a huge fan of the comb...I've been trying...she's just got a minor attitude. Ha-ha.

I keep their hair short most of the time but there are times I let it grow out they are adorable either way. so it is your personal choice. Your baby will be beautiful either way.
