| Crate & X-pen Setup? 10 days left since my baby boy arrives...I am in process of getting him a crate but i cannot decide what type of crate i should pick for him...Some people say that "cat carriers" would work just fine, whereas other suggest that i should get one of those metal ones...i am planning to pee pad train my boy so I will actually use the x-pen & crate combination method...now I really have no idea how to setup my crate & x-pen...I was wondering if it wont be too much of a hassle, could you guys please post your crate & x-pen setup pictures and explain why this method work for you? thank you all in advance! |

| Hi, first congrats on getting your new baby I'm sure someone else will be much better at explaining this then me but I'll tell you what I did and why it worked. When I got my first girl I used a bigger x-pen and put a doggie litterbox on the one side and her blankie and food on the other. This forced her to go in the box because she would never go where she had to sleep. I'm sure some people may think this is wrong to do but it worked wonderful for me. Eventually, I was able to open her door and leave it open and she would run back to her crate when she needed to go. Then I moved the box right infront of the crate door (kept the same path as she was used to) and did this for awhile and eventually took down the crate and never had a problem. This has worked for both my yorkie girls. Both are trained so well that even when they're outside they won't potty They hold it and when they step foot in the door they run and pee together in their box Good Luck to you!! Sorry I have no pics to show you.

| When I got Phoebe, I use the pet taxi I used to going to the vet (now she has a car seat), the metal one crate was use for sleep at night,(she sleep with us now) and xpen at day, I covered with the pee-pad, food, water etc, then I remove the pee-pad to the point that she only need it one and in the other site of her x-pen was her food, now she is 100% potty train she has the house, but whenwe aren't at home, she is in the kitchen with one pee-pad, safe toys, food water, music tv, I use a baby gate that I got at Walt-mart, is clear so don't have bars, and adjust to any size of door. She and my cats (two) get along well but I leave them separate when we are not at home. Sorry I don't have pictures either, but I'm sure that someone here do; oh by the way congratulation on your new baby |

| PANAMA69 has done an outstanding job with her methods. I too used the ex-pen attached to the front of the wire crate. Had one wee-wee pad down and attached a water bottle to the pen. Gave safe chewy toys and also took them outside every hour, so they would be outside trained as well as pad trained. Now when we can't take them we leave them in the kitchen breakfast area with a pad down, but they haven't needed it since they were just about a year old. I also covered the crate with a blanket to make it more den like, and made a soft bed for the inside. When Zada had knee surgery I put a 2" thick foam pad down so it would be easier on her knees. Here is a picture of that. http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3...3June06001.jpg |

| WOW, I can't believe you would choose me to care for Phoebe. What a wonderful honor that would be. You know how nuts I am for that little dark baby of yours anyway. Thank you so much for all those lovely compliments. I'm overwhelmed. |

| In my case. I got Rocky at 10 weeks. At this point the breeder said he is crate trained. I could not put him in a metal crate for 12 hours every day. I gave him my bedroom (15-20ft room) with a pee pad, food and a small bed, and he is good so far. He sleeps in his bed at night, and does his things on the pad. So far so good. |

No Longer a Member | Here's how we set up ours. We left the door to her crate open at night, and Chloe let herself out at night to pee/poop on the pad, then just went back in her crate to sleep. If we left and didn't take her with us, we used this set up. Gradually, when we would leave, we'd leave her in (with the crate door latched) for 1 hour, then 2 hours, etc. It really helped with housebreaking. |

| Is true, I have seen many toy dogs like yorkies they are beautiful but man not very well behave at all some one are so afraid that they pee themself (poor babies) and other one that you can even pet without want to bite you, I don't understand that maybe they need to be socialize more or what, but your babies are so well behave such a ladies. sorry don't mean to bump this threat. I will pm you |

| Max came in a plastic one. It lasted about 2 weeks at night, now he sleeps with us. Ours was small, but he is fine going to the vet in it.

No Longer a Member | I don't like the wire ones. They seem to cage-y to me. The plastic ones are like cozy little dog dens. Chloe loves hers. She feels safe in there. For example, when I'm running the vaccuum, that is where she runs to to be safe from it. |
