| Need help with Caleb! Hi everyone, I just had a couple of questions. My puppy Caleb is now 14 weeks old and still doesn't sleep through the night. He has to go to the bathroom throughout the night. like i take him out at 11pm before we go to bed, then again at 2am and at 5am, and when my fiance goes to work at 8am. He's over 3 months now so i was wondering how long it will be before he holds it through most of the night..i dont remember the last time i got a full night of sleep, and my fiance is getting aggitated, even though I take him out all the time. Also wanted to know if anyone else is having a problem with going to the bathroom in the crate. he has gone in his crate the last few days, mainly because my work schedule has been crazy and he has had to be a home for like 8 hours. usually i'm only gone for 4-5 hours at a time, but he goes multiple times in there like he thinks since he already did it he can do it again. The crate has a divider so it is small enough to where he shouldn't be going in it. Frankly, my fiance and I are getting tired of cleaning him off and i know those are long hours, but shouldn't he start holding it better at this age? He does great when i'm home during the day letting me know when he has to go, but will he grow out of these things soon? Please, any help or suggestions will be appreciated.

| Unitl they are 6 months they are not considered to have full control over their bladder?...have you tried wee wee pads..since you are not home all the time...and also you can't really crate him for 8 hrs and expect for him not to have an accident.,..once he pees in his crate he can probably smell it and that is why he will continue to pee in there...I would recommend that when you will be gone for more then 4 hours you gate off a section or leave him in the bathroom with a wee pad and completely sanitize his crate..so he can't smell where he went prior...consistency is really really important while they are so young...Maximus is 14 weeks now and has just started using his wee wee pad with about 99% accuracy in the last 2 weeks..but he has never soiled his crate because I put wee wee pads down when I am gone more then 4 hours and gate off the living room (hardwood floors)...hope this helps.. |
