LUV my 3 Furrs & Alex Donating Member | Please help...Yorkies, coal, wood and fire Hi there... My babies love to lay down in front of the fire and could stay there for hours playing with their chicken, but as soon as I take my eyes off them for a second they start chewing wood and eating coal. Just ten minutes ago I woke up in the middle of the living room with this huge piece of coal on the floor. Is this bad for their health?

| Anything that isn't easily digestible (such as wood) can build up in the intestines, cause a blockage and can be deadly. My friend's kitten almost died from chewing on and swallowing small pieces of her child's play mat. Surgery saved his life. I don't know much about coal but I believe it contains poisons such as mercury and arsenic. That would worry me even more than the wood. Definitely something you do not want them to continue consuming. Welcome to YT!!

| Do you have a screen around your fireplace? I'd put the coal and firewood up where they can't reach it. Yuck coal. |

| My Starr died from eating a pencil, so I highly recommend that you put up the firewood or block it off somehow Might wanna call the vet and see if you should bring them in.

| OMG! Thats awful! I am so so sorry for your loss. I actually caught Bella with a pencil in her mouth the other day! Thank God I had my eyes on her.....I swear I have to have eyes in the back of my head with that one.

We all need eyes in the back of our heads now I was putting medicine in Luna's ears and Izzy came up and stole the cap from next to my leg and I didn't even SEE her I only knew when I went to replace it and couldn't find it anywhere, then I heard her crunching on something, under my bed,and had my daughter get it from her (she's small enough to fit under there). These doggies sure keep us on our toes!
