| Children and Yorkies Hi. Was wondering how your kids do with your Yorkies. Or should I say, how your Yorkies do with your kids? We have a miniature Poodle who weighs around 9lb. Our twin Grandsons who are almost 3yr.old have grown up around our Poodle and they are pretty good about not bothering her. I have read posts where someone suggested not buying a Yorkie if you have small kids. Was wondering what your thoughts are on that. Is their a large percentage of breeders selling Yorkies that won't sell to someone that has small children? |

| I have had two yorkies since my son was 11 months old. I think each situation needs to be evaluated on a case by case basis. I think my son has taught the dogs to be patient and tolerant, and the dogs have taught my son how to be gentle. I think they need to be supervised at all times, but I wouldn't trade it for anything! |

| Yes some breeders wont sell to people with small children. My experience is that the larger yorkes do better with Children. I have a 6 lb yorkie and a 10 lb yorkie. The 6 l yorkie reallyy doesnt have anything to do with Daughter who is 6. The 10 lb yorkie goes outside with her plays with her,can take being played with rough, lays down beside her and goes to sleep with her,and whines to go with me when I go to pick her up at school. If I wanted a pet for me I would get a smaller yorkie but if i wanted a family pet thats good with kids I would get a larger one

| kids I raised my children with puppies...but they were taught how to treat them. Unfortunately, some parents allow children to do as they please, so I won't place one with under school age children..and only if they are taught to repsect and care for all animals. My grandson, Ty has been raised with Yorkies..he used to come to my MD house and help me clean the kennel when he was only 3...he is a gentle caring animal lover... |

| I have a son who just turned 4 and he is not allowed to be alone with Sophie. On the other hand...I also won't let him be alone with my baby neice either. Even though Yorkies are not human babies I've found that the same common sense applies. The breeder had a smaller Yorkie and Sophie who was a bit larger and she recommended Sophie because she knew we had kids. My older son who is 7 does awesome and loves on her like a little sister. |

| My girls have never not been without a dog for long periods. They would be lost without one in the house. I had no concerns whatsoever about bringing a yorkie into our family. My girls are older--15, 12, & 9, but would they have been great with a yorkie when they were younger, we just couldn't afford one then. I guess it just depends on the circumstances of each family. |

| I have 1 female Yorkie and 1 female half Yorkie/Half Maltese (and a large dog.) They all do great with my son who is a few months shy of 2 years old. He loves to run around the house while they chase him. He also hand feeds them their dog food. It is hilarious. I do however keep a close eye on him with them. I never leave them unattended. Even though he is good with them I just do not trust that he hurt them by accident by falling on them or petting them too hard or something. He is a little boy afterall and very hyper and not the most graceful little man! LOL My morkie is 2 pounds and still a puppy. My Yorkie is between 3.5 and 4 pounds. | Buddy is a larger Yorkie however I did not realize he would get to 13lbs when my 3yr old granddaughter helped me pick him out. He is 3 now and she is 6. They have always played together and he just can't get enough of her. She now has a 5mo sister who he really pays no attention to. Hopefully as time goes on he will love Isabella just as much. I have to spell Nicole when talking about her because he got bezerk when he hears her name. |

| My children were both raised with pets, so they know how to treat them. My 3yo is wonderful with Percy. He treats him like a little baby brother (which he is) Percy is just 5lbs so they know they have to be careful and very gentle. Which they are. Percy loves them. They will sit and play with him and rub his belly. He loves the attention! The only problem we have is when friends come over, we usually gate him as they don't always understand Percy needs to get to know them first before they can just reach out and pet him. Also, sometimes if the kids get a little loud he gets jumpy, but he just goes in our room and hides.

| I have a five year old and a three year old with a 5lbs yorkie, a 7lbs yorkie and a new 8 week old puppy. They are awesome together but the dogs were all pups when they adjusted to the kiddos and the kiddos were taught from the very start to be SUPER gentle. They are only allowed to pet the dogs and play... NO PICKING UP!

| I'm not a Yorkie owner .... yet! When we decided that it was time to add a dog to our family, I sought th advice of a local vet. He actually suggested getting a yorkie because they were all used to being around small babies. I have 4 kids and hoping to add 2 yorkies to our family. I just hope I can connect with a breeder that is open minded about homes with children. Good luck on your search. |

| I have always had lots of pets, even when my first child was small. It is always our rule that no kids are allowed to "pick up" any pets. They can sit on the floor and the pet can get in their lap, pet the dog/kitten, love it all they won't. Just no picking up, thus no dropping. I also have to say though, that the max excitement time for any new pet here (with the kids) is about two weeks. After that, they could really care less. They have already moved on to bigger and better things. That is why I only acquire animals/pets that I am willing to take on 100% responsibility for.

| i have an 8yo, 5yo, 4yo, 1.5yo, and a 8 month old. i have 2 4 month old yorkies. one is 4lb and the other is 6lbs. the 6 lb is hyper and really thinks hes the lick. he wants to play with everyone. my 1.5 yo won't have anything to do with him. but she loves the 4 lber and she won't have anything to do with her. both yorkies love the baby and i think they see that he is their size so they want to hang with him and he could careless and seems rather annoyed when they come around. i would love a tiny but i would be to afraid it would get trampled by all the little feet. they both do great with the older children but everyone loves Troy because shes so calm and loving. Walker just wants to play and is a little hyper for everyone even me. i think if the children are not alone with the dogs they should be fine. though my 1 yo is alone with mine and when they see her coming they usually hit the road. so you have to give the dog a little credit that they won't allow a little one to close. but with young puppies you have to more aware.
