| Lexus won't walk - help? Our little Lexus is almost 6 months old, she has never been outside yet as our winters are so cold, now that it's warming up we've tried to get her to go for walks outside, but as soon as we put her harness on she freezes and refuses to move. We tried this in the house too and still no movement. Attaching the leash is even worse, she wimpers and just stands there. We tried to give her a little pull and bait her with treats but she won't move. Any suggestions on how to get our little girl in motion? Could she be scared of a leash? Is the harness the problem? Or maybe she just doesn't get what walking is? Any suggestions? Thanks.

| One of our yorkies was the same way. We put the harness on her a little each day and increased the time. Wasn't long before she was used to it. Then we added the leash and just let her drag it around. (Keep an eye on her, as the leash can get caught on things and scare her.) In the beginning we just put the leash on while she sat in our lap and later let her drag it. It didn't take but a few days and she was fine with it. Pick up the leash periodically (after she gets used to it) and hold it without tugging on it. Then started putting some pressure on it, but make a game out of it. Then start moving her outside and she should be tugging on it herself so she can run. Then just start her heeling training. Good luck! |

| I had little trouble with Lilo on the beginning also, but I started to put harness on her while I was at home with her, so she will get used to it. Just give your baby some time so she can get used to it. You need to arm yourself with a lot of PATIANCE

| With Misha she was the same way. So I would put it on her & pick her up to go & get the mail. She took it as it was a way to go out. Now I don't have a problem.

| Since our weather finally cleared up I started taking Hoku out for walks and she loved it but little Kalani would NOT move. I discovered it wasn't the harness or leash but the big outdoors So, for the past week I've been carrying him in a tote and letting him watch his sister walking and lo and behold today I put the leash on him and he walked like a pro My BF and I were so proud and I'm sure the neighbors thought we were crazy for praising him the whole way around the block - LOL!

We did basically the same thing with Calliope. I think it helped her to see our other dog on the leash. She wanted to keep up with him to. So once she got used the harness, then the leash, then the porch, then the side walk, then the drive way, now she goes wherever and acts like she owns the world.
