Welcome to YorkieTalk!! If you do a search, you can find some more information about Chocolate yorkies but here is an exerpt from a post made by orinskye: The red or chocolate born are affected by the bb genes. The red or chocolate born, referred to as liver in some breeds will also have self colored pigment, such as red, chocolate or liver nose. The Yorkshire Terrier should only be carrying the dominant BB genes. I have not heard of health problems with the red/chocolate born puppies, like with the blue born puppies. Yet most of these situations occur with backyard breeders and puppy mills and they are not likely to share the history of problems with the show breeders. Once again this is a recessive being passed on to the puppies from the parents.

Hi and welcome to Yorkie talk!! Congratulations on your new litter and your chocolate little girl! How exciting. I have a gol and white yorkie that came from two traditional colored AKC parents. My understanding is that AKC does recognize the chocolate color and you could have her registered AKC but she could just not be shown in an AKC yorkie conformation show. She owuld be fine for agility and obedience shows. I would call AKC but i am pretty sure that that's the way it is. I may be wrong.

If you get a Chocolate couldn't you still register it as the mother's registrated colors? What color is the gold and white born? Sylvia

First, WELCOME! Are you from VA? Just curious about that one.. I own 2 male chocs and have researched a lot on them. If you have pics of your puppy would you please post them or I can send you my e-mail addy and we can talk privately. Both parents have to carry the gene as a recessive to get the coloration. If your parents are related even back several generations it can come forward and voila! chocs are born..

Congratulations on your new puppy.. I bet she is adorable I can't wait to see a pic of her I think you can register a chocolate with the AKC and the YTCA is the organization that does not recognize them. You should call AKC and look into it.

I see the weather for Coeburn VA on your site, so I guess that's where you live lol. I have a 15 minute drive to Keokee VA, my husband worked in Norton and Coeburn several years ago. I can't believe I find a Yorkie breeder this close to my home the day after I finally found a puppy and already placed my deposit. Last edited by yorkiemomwannaB; 05-24-2005 at 09:58 PM.
