| Liverworst never fails for me. Hide the pill inside a small piece.

| I'm more for the direct route: open the mouth, place the pill at the back of the throat and close the mouth. Immediately follow up with an extra tasty treat. If you're firm and sure in your actions, it goes smoothly. I give Tetley all his pills this way and he's only spat it back at me once. I tried the hide it in a piece of food trick and he found it every time. |

| What I do that never fails... maybe because mine are little piggies... I put the pill in a small piece of soft cheese and have a second small 'backup' piece. Then I make sure they see BOTH pieces. They are so eager to get to that second treat that they gobble the first one right up without spitting out the pill! Mine don't often get people food so they get all excited for their treat! I always have to have extra cheese on hand so that the other kids get some to!

| I take the pill and wrap it in a tiny bit of cheese too. but... i also kind of place it back in their mouth so they dont spit it out. I also hold the chin up a bit so they have to swall it. I try to do this where the others can't get to the pill if it does happen to come out (never has yet). you know how they all run for things that is dropped on the floor? all of mine do it. I am afraid one of them will snatch up a pill that is not meant for them, so I am very careful. good luck. hope you get some good tips on this one.

| I slip Teagan's pills in a slice of a lowfat turkey hotdog...she loves it. Now whenever she hears me taking an Advil or something, she comes running to see if it's time for her medicine. I can't believe she still responds to rattling pills after all this timem because she hasn't had meds for months and months! She needed an antibiotic from the vet earlier this week - so now she gets her hotdog slice 2 x day for 2 weeks, and she couldn't be more thrilled.

| We have that problem with our kitty. Kitty will not be fooled by anything, even liverwurst or tuna. Our Yorkie baby goes for the liverwurst trick. But for kitty, my sister suggested we get one of those pill popper thingies you can get at the pet store for dogs. It looks like a syringe with the point cut in slits so you can fit a pill in the end of it. You then stick the syringe in the back corner of their mouth and push the plunger. It shoots the pill right into the back of their throat and they don't have a choice. They have to swallow it. It hasn't failed us yet. |

I had a vet tell me to do this years ago. He said to put the pill as far back as possible, hold the mouth shut while stroking their throat until they swallow. I only had about a 20% success rate with this method. Someone else told me to try blowing in their nose instead of stroking the throat to make them swallow. Lets just say that was a nightmare that left me with a really upset dog!! And that was with my mellow Sheltie... could you just imagine how a York would react!!

| I try both methods, and whatever works best is the one I use. Why cause problems. Sherry Lynn you have the most beautiful dogs on your avatar. That collie is just gorgeous. |
