| Please Please Please Help Me!!! Okay.. I've gotten myself in a place.. i don't know how to get out of... I adopted a yorkie from a rescue foundation. We spoke and I told her how we had 3 cats,, and she said that she wasn't sure how he was with cats... So we figured we would just see how it went.. Well I was so super excited and didn't read the long drawn out contract they gave me,, and on it is says, that they don't refund the $428 bucks if it doesn't work out.. Well we brought him home and he hates the cats.. I mean hates them,, he chased down 2 of them, and hurt one of them already... I've called trainers and all kinds of things. I don't know what to do... I've only had him for 4 days now.. and he's already hurt the one cat, and I have to have him on a lead all the time,, he can't run because of the cats... I tried to talk to the lady who did the adopting to see if we could find him a home without cats, but then I lose all my money.... I know this sounds like I'm cold hearted, and I'm not,, I don't know what to do... That's alot of money, and I've put alot of research and time into finding the right dog.. They wouldn't let me spend time with him and see how he reacted.. So now I'm stuck.. I love the little guy I really do.. But It's been a really hard few days.. Please someone help me... I need opinions, and don't be mad,, I'm not trying to be cold,, I've rescued several animals and never ever had this problem before.. Heather |

| Heather I'm sorry you're going through this. It must be hard. If you can give it some more time to see if he adjusts, because 4 days are really nothing and it will take longer for him to adjust. Maybe keep him in an expen, to where he can't hurt any of the kitties, at least until he adjusts and learns to be civil with them. If things don't work out why don't you try to sell him yourself?

| http://www.amazon.com/Yard-Containme...3313373&sr=1-1 It's a gate that you can increase or decrease in size. You can use this to get him to calm down, and not hurt the kitties. Just to give him some time to adjust.

Would they be willing to give you a cat friendly Yorkie? What exactly did they say when you told them about this problem?

| Oh, I am so sorry, I did not mean to be mean. I know it is a difficult situation for you. I just don't want you to have more problems in the future. The rescues I know don't allow it. Does your contract say anything about that? Otherwise, I agree with others, for the time being you can restrict the dog's access. Some pet stores (like petsmart) sell very large gates, though I don't know how much more money you want to spend. It sucks that the dog clears it. I hope you'll find a solution soon.

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | i agree with vainchick. get an expen and place him in it so he can get used to the cats being around. or baby gate him in one room like the kitchen. this way the cats have free roam but he doesn't. he needs to learn that this is their house, not his yet and he needs to play by their rules. also, if he's not too too tiny of a yorkie you can get a training collar or a 'zapper' that makes a 'negative' sound when you push a button. the negative sound will be associated with him chasing the cats and it will teach him that chasing the cats is not acceptable. http://www.radiofence.com/ultrasonic_trainer.htm

| I would give it some time. When our dogs go to my parents house they get to play with the cats, because our cats are used to it. But when they go to my bf's parents they're cat has been in a massive fight with one (lost one leg), she HATED them at first... It's just something that took time. They tolerated each other after awhile, and now they can actually lay together. Maybe in time things will be okay. |

| I wish... I could restrict him.. He'd have to stay in a crate the whole time... The contract says: 3: If the adoptive owner cannot, for any reason, keep the dog they must notify them and give them the option of reacquiring the Yorkie. and in pen it's written: If Yorkie is returned adoption fee will not be refunded. I'm not giving them the dog back,, That's $428 dollars,,, that's wrong!! They should give you some time to make sure it'll work before they set you into a contract.. All contracts have to have some time of time to get out of them.. |
