| Yorkie Coloring!!! Hi Everybody. I was wondering if the mom of my puppy is dark silver/grey, and the dad is black what color the puppy could be. Thanks for the help! I go to pick Chloe (my female puppy) out on Saturday. She will be six weeks old then, and I will get her when she is 11 weeks old. Also, are there any tricks to picking out a puppy that will be darker in color? |

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | I've come to the conclusion that a puppy gives no clue as to how they look as adults ! My Cheri changed lots -....Chanel wasn't as drastic but I've seen lots of puppies that really do change colors etc as they grow up .... |

| You can never really be certain.... They can go back up to five generations on both sides! So unless the breeder knows that far back, I guess you can't be sure with a yorkie. I did have a breeder tell me that sometimes when you look at a puppy, if you look at its' head, to look at its' roots to see if any silver is coming out yet, or if the hair looks thin on top of the head that it's not really thin, but it's silver and that can indicate that it will be more silver when it is grown. Whether that is true or not, I don't know but it kind of makes since I guess; however, at that age, the silver hasn't always started coming in yet. It hadn't on my Molly, but she is getting siver-headed now.

| Here's Lexi at 6.5 weeks (June, 2004), October 2004, March 2005 and last weekend. She'll be 11 months on Sunday. Her color is still changing on her head from gray/silver to a light copper color. Amazing! (isn't she cute???)

| My yorkie was black and gold when I got him at 6 weeks and he had a little white on his front feet which I heard was a good indication that they would be light. He is now 17 months old and is silver and blonde (very light). The part down the center of his back is coming out darker - maybe he is changing colors again. Also when he was about 4 months old he looked like he had a bald spot on his head but when you really looked at it, it was just really light. Hope this helps, I don't when they quit changing colors. |

| A puppy usually "starts to break" on her head a little earlier, maybe 6-8 week sif they are going tobe lighter in color. |
