Senior Yorkie Talker | I just can't do it right now :( Hi guys , I feel so bad right now. I don't think i'm going to be getting that new puppy. I'm having some serious second thoughts. I know Zoey needs a companion and I would absolutely love to have another little dog running around the house but after boggling my mind with "what if's" , I just don't think the time is right. I have Zoey who is still NOT completely potty trained so that makes things alot more difficult. She takes things out of my trash and runs. She's messed up a good amount of my carpet and I can't take it up because I live in an apartment. They would croak over. Not to mention all of the extra expenses. I was using bonus money from my job to make my purchase which would be 1200.00 extra on my paycheck. Then I just noticed right after I buy him , i'd have to shell out another 200.00 at the vet , more money on food , more toys , more clothes (which is not neccessary but I think it's cute ) , another crate , playpen (which i'm still going to get for Zoey while i'm at work) , etc. I have the money to spend but I need to get Zoey in order first. She's very undisciplined and I feel as though she needs to go to an obediance school which would be another couple of hundred. I feel so bad. Everytime I come on the site and see people with multiple Yorkies , it makes me want another one. I'll just sit here and cry until I feel better. Thanks for everyone who helped me out. I appreciate it.

| I think you made a very wise decision if you are already stressed financially and emotionally. A new puppy is a lot of work and can be very stressful. |

| Don't feel so sad -- just think what a joy Zoey is and lavish some more love on her! You will know when the time is right -- if and when it comes. Only "kids" can do just fine too!

| I have to admire your wisdom and anyway I'm not sure that some dogs don't prefer to be "only" dogs. |

| I agree - everytime I think about getting another Yorkie, I consider how much time, love, and affection Sadie needs. I ABSOLUTELY think she's happy being an only furbaby!!

Senior Yorkie Talker | All of you are wonderful! Thanks for making me feel better. With all of the extra money that I would have had to spend on Jasper (that's what I had named him ) , i'll invest that money in things that I REALLY need such as a steam cleaner and more toys for Zoey. She has this one little rubber bone that she has demolished. Can anybody recommend a good cleaner? I'm sure the breeder will understand. She's a wonderful woman and she even told me that if I couldn't afford it , let her know. It's not that I can't afford it but I could use that money to do other things with and i'd rather just get Zoey in place and give her all of the extra LOVE and ATTENTION (she's a hogger! )

| I think it is great that you realize all this and are smart enough to wait. You'll get your 2nd baby when the time is right!!

Donating YT 30K Club Member | If you feel the time is not right then I always go with my gut feeling. I have always had 1 dog at a time until I got Cali a 1 1/2 years ago and I knew the time was right, Then I decided I wanted another one and I spent 6 months looking and passed on several dogs as I just didn't have THE feeling. When I talked to Pixie's breeder on the phone I just knew it wa the right one. 45 minutes later I was at her house and broght Pixie home. I also don't think if I was still working I would have taken on 3 at a time for me that would have been too much. The time will come when you are ready.

| I Think It Is Very Sensible Of You - Better To Decide Now That To Go Ahead And Regret It Later........... I Too Have Always Only Had One Dog At A Time - Never With Any Wish To Get Another. Who Knows What The Future Holds, But At The Moment I Am Very Happy With Just Harvey Who Is 11 Months Old And So Loved And Cherished By All The Family. Good Luck

| You shouldn't feel bad about doing what is best for you and your existing baby! It is a very wise decision. Also, with your baby acting the way she is the new puppy would've probably picked up some of her bad habits (believe me it can happen). Then you would have double trouble! Besides they can be perfectly happy being the only baby. All she really needs is you! |

Senior Yorkie Talker | I feel so much better. Thanks everyone! I didn't think it was a wise decision to bring another little puppy into the household and Zoey is having problems. That would have put alot more on me and made it hard for me to try and focus. If Zoey would have been well trained and obedient , I wouldn't mind having another one around but just not right now. Trying to train two at one time is just too much. Especially with my work schedule. I'm a neat-freak so when Zoey makes mistakes on my carpet , it makes me furious but I have to stop and relize that she's only doing what I am allowing her to do. Therefor , I have to learn to focus on my mistakes as well. In due time , I will get another puppy but it may be awhile from now. Finances and keeping my house clean is more important. LOL. I love Zoey and i'm glad to give her a ton of attention.

| wow - dont' take this the wrong way, but you are SO lucky to already have A dog! I really really really want one, and It takes all I've got not to go out and get one, but I know I am not ready time-wise and money-wise! Right now I'm just keeping myself busy reading all these wonderful posts and browsing the pictures, and also pouring through books about yorkies, researching breeders etc. When the right time comes along, I know all this waiting will be worth it - and I'm sure the same will be for you when you get your 2nd baby |
