| I'm worried about Jerry...sigh Well Jerry just came back from his yearly vet visit today. He is pretty healthy for the most part, however I'm really worried about him.....he's now 7.2 lbs !!!! The vet said this is not good for his joints and we have to get him on lite dog food. In lieu of this I feel so guilty. I know we feed him way too much, especially me . Jerry should probably about 5 lbs. Another part of the problem (I think) is that Jerry stays in the house most of the time. We don't want him to be an outdoor dog. My fear is that he's not getting enough exercise. We play everyday just about. I know now is not the time wallow in guilt and all that. I just feel so horrible about it . Any advice other than the obvious on how I can get Jerry slimmed down? Thanks, Michael |

| Most of the time I hear to take dogs on a walk everyday, this helps in three ways: Keeping nails worn down, helping to establish rutine and most important giving the dog exercise! My old dog, who was a Samoyed(Kimba), was very overweight for a while... we couldn't tell because his fur was so puffy! The vet put him on a green bean diet. We fed him a meal that was half green beans(canned) with half as much food as we would usually give him, twice a day. Somebody also told me their vet recommended peas... but I don't know that for sure. Kimba really liked the green beans I hope this helps!

| Becca has some great ideas! My dogs also love green beans straight from the can. I even use them as a treat. Even a short walk will do Jerry a lot of good. Just remember, anytime you put a dog on a weight loss diet you need to monitor him closely, especially a toy dog. Always let your vet know what dietary changes you are planning to make. It wouldn't hurt to run him in to the vet for a quick weight check after a week or so. A lot of the most popular dog foods are loaded with fat. I think you'll be very pleasantly surprised at how quickly Jerry will be back to his stud muffin weight!

| The Green bean idea is a good one....but Cynthia I think you may have hit the nail on the head with something that didn't occur to me until now. Jerry went through this stage where he just plain wasn't eating anything at all. So we started feeding him this wet food called Cesar. Thats gotta be the culprit. I'm going to get him off that and try the green beans as well. I'm also going to quit the guilt trip I'm on right now and just focus on getting Jerry slimmed down Thanks, Michael |

| Awwww Little Jerry needs to go on a diet If you have a yard or can bring him to an enclosed space, I would just let him run around for 5 or 10 minutes a day. If I'm really busy with school or work and can't play outside long, I just bring one of my books outside and let him run around. He literally runs circles. I don't think a diet is necessary -- just get him off that Cesar and see what happens with just dry food and some good hardy exercise.

| Jerry Michael, It's hard to picture that tiny, cute little puppy in the video being overweight, but I know it happens. One of my friends had a yorkie that was very overweight, and they put it on the diet dog food and started an exercise program and the vet couldn't figure out why he still wasn't losing weight.....turns out my friend was always feeding him yogurt drops (about a can every 2 to 3 days ) and puperoni as treats. When he exercised he got even more treats, so he had actually gained a little weight while on his diet before the vet figured it out. LOL. Maybe if you give him a lot of treats, you can cut back on those as well and that might help. You don't need to feel bad either, you were just spoiling your baby rotten. It's something we all do. I'm sure in no time you can get him back to a healthy weight.

| Stewie's Mom: Yes definitely more exercise....and Cesar.....that stuff is bad bad...for Jerry anyways Brownie's Mom: The thing that scared me so bad was when the doctor said it was bad for his joints to weigh so much....I think the doctor meant for his frame he's too heavy. Tara: I used to be very guilty of giving him treats....we have scaled back quite a bit on that. He gets one mini T-Bonz around breakfast time and thats about it other than a small piece of liver everytime he goes potty. I think we have a game plan...I really hope it works...I'm feeling less guilty...and more focus on making him trim Michael |

| Yes, I think Yoda got a bit too pudgy because of Cesar too! We stopped that before his first birthday though, and now he's strictly on Royal Canin Yorkshire 28 dry food, mixed in with chicken and dog sausages at times. Good luck slimming down, Jerry! |

| Yes, if he really is too big for his bones, as he gets older, it would pain him in his joints. It's a lot easier to take a little weight off a younger dog than trying to do it when he's a lot older. Just scale back a little at a time...Theresa & The Boys |

| I feel your guilt! Hallie too is on a diet! She loves green beans so I've been doing that per my vet! And on rainy days I run up and down the hallway with her for excercise And on sunny days we go for long long walks. THe problem in my house is that Simon needs to gain weight and Hallie needs to lose so meal time is always an adventure Keep us informed of the diet progress, good luck! |

| Luckily he hasn't been on the Cesar that long, if I had to guess he's been on it for about 3 months....maybe.....but I guess it shows The playing the chase around the house is a good idea....I do that with him as well, but you know when you have those nights when you get home from work and you just want to flop down.....well I've probably had a few too many of those lately and Im sure thats contributed to his weight problem. I'm just glad I found this out now when he's 2...opposed to when he's alot older. Michael |

| ok now for the idotic green bean question.....How do I give this to him? I would think I would give him fresh green beans and just break it apart and give it to him. Or do i need to boil them? Also are the ones in the can ok? How do you guys feed green beans to your yorkies? Michael |
