| What's YOUR Yorkie story?? Ok all, I have to tell you all how I first got introduced to the breed. When I was in 2nd Grade, (yes, elementary school), I had a best friend named Amy. I used to go to Amy's house to play and have sleepovers. She had a teeny, tiny yorkie male that I just fell in love with. After meeting that cute doggie, I would ask my parents every single Christmas for a yorkie. And every single year, I was told no. My parents could in no way afford one, so it was totally understandable. I think at the time we thought they would only put us out about $500 (ha!). Anyway, after waiting about 17 years, I ended up with Dexter by some weird chance. He just came in to our lives unexpectedly and I always thought that he was a childhood wish that very much came true for me. I waited patiently all that time and finally got what I had wanted for so long. I just always thought that that was a neat story.... What about you all? Anyone else have something like this happen to them too???

Senior Yorkie Talker | I've always loved Yorkies! When I was 7 years old , my mom brought me a little tiny poodle. We named him Jordan because he could jump really high. I absolutely loved Jordan. However , when I turned 11 , we moved and we couldn't have dogs so my mom sold him to a wonderful family. The man of the family was a doctor so we knew he was going to a very good home. Every since then , I knew I wanted another puppy. In December of 2005 , I decided I wanted another puppy so that's when I started searching for Yorkshire Terriers. I found a breeder not too far from me and that's where I got Zoey from! That was the best day of my life. He had her in a crate in the back of his van and when he opened the door , she looked at me with these little cute eyes and we immediately bonded from there. Don't get me wrong. She's a terror but she's soooo loving. She's messing in my garbage as I type this. I love her to death. So now , i'm expecting a little boy in March! I would never thought that I would get two dogs but it feels good having Zoey around so why not? I'm happy I decided to go with this breed. I couldn't imagine anything else.

| When i was growing up a lady that lived in our road had 4 yorkies, and they all used to stand by the gate barking at anyone that went past. My mum wouldnt let me have one (boo hoo) then whet i went to senior school my friend there also had a yorkie and it just confirmed it to me that i had to have one at some point in my life! Well eventually at the ripe old age of 31yrs i got my Pippa and i cant remember what life was like without her!

| I've always wanted a dog, but was never allowed. My husband and I were married this past July and we decided to get ourselves a dog as a Christmas present to ourselves. It didn't work out that way for one reason or another. I had a chance to doggy-sit my cousin's bichon for a while and that's when I knew that I didn't just *want* a dog, but that the house felt empty without one (I'm a teacher that works days, and my husband is a waiter that works most nights). In the mean time we were researching which breed would be right for us. We couldn't agree, but then a cuple of people we knew got yorkie puppies recently, and we fell in love! In mid January Angelo called to say taht he saw some yorkie pups and other breeds at a local pet store and wanted me to come see them just to check them out and interact with them. I fell in love with one of the little female yorkies because she seemed to make the most eye contact and was cuddling into my foot. A week later I came home from grocery shopping and Ange asked me to go to teh bedroom to check on something and there she was! The female from teh store! We named her Tia...we went through a bit of drama with her LP, and we thought we would have to give her up...but we kept her! IN fact, I brought her to teh vet the otehr day and as of now one of her 2 affected legs is now perfect! We love her to pieces! |

| When I was a little girl, I had an aunt who raised and showed Malteses. She had a little girl named Melita, and I just thought it was the most precious dog I'd ever seen. I was always an animal lover, and would pour over one of those books with all the different dog breeds in it, reading about their different characteristics, etc. I felt myself more and more drawn to the terrier personality. I had never seen a yorkie, but I eventually decided that yorkies were the perfect breed for me. It was my lifelong dream to own one, but the time and $$ was never right. Twenty years later we were visiting with some of my husband's family, and they had just acquired a little yorkie puppy. Omigosh....I just fell in love. I couldn't stand it....I went home and immediately started researching the breed, and looking for a local breeder. Then, the NIGHT before I was going to go pick up Kiki, my husband's relatives contacted us, BEGGING us to take Mazie. They were not able to give her the time and attention she needed, she wasn't potty-training, etc. At first I was very frustrated that this had not come around sooner....BEFORE I'd already committed to buying a pup of my own! BUT!!!! Of course, having them both has just been the greatest blessing, and we wouldn't trade it for the world!!! Besides....back when I was a teen....dreaming of eventually being a yorkie owner...I always imagined myself with TWO! Wonderful how dreams do come true sometimes, huh?!

| my story I worked for a tanning salon that was a small little business and the owner & his wife owned a shih tzu. I thought it was the most adorable dog in the world and I wanted one sooo bad. I researched them to peices and would always tell my mom about them and how I wanted one. Well I guess I appealed her to the breed a little too much bc her hubby & her called me one day and told me they bought a shih tzu bc of all I told them about them. I still wanted a little dog of my own, but 1 shih tzu in the family was enough. So back to the drawing board, more research, I found the yorkie! I had to have one! I never knew anyone who had one, I never had even seen one really. I mean i have in the store or someone walking aroudn with one, but never interacted with one. Man do I love this breed though! Besides the lack of housebreaking, my boys are smart, sturdy, small enough to take almost anywhere, they are sooo loveable, their eyes are so full of expression! |

| I am enjoying everyone's story. Here's mine: I was first introded to a yorkie about 17 years ago. We had two cockers at the time that we adored. Any way, my husband was transferred to Louisiana and the first friend I met also had two cockers AND a 3 lb yorkie (named Sweetie). I fell in love with her. I had the "honor" of dog sitting Sweetie everytime my friend had to leave town. I wanted a yorkie ever since, but we were pregnant with our first and money was tight at the time so we didn't even consider it. My husband was adamant that we would never spend that kind of money on the purchase of a dog. I put yorkies out of my mind until this past year. My girls' mini schnauzer was stolen so we replaced her with my husband's childhood wish of owning an english springer spaniel. Our springer turned out to be a neurotic escape artist that would eat though our privacy fence. Any way, it was a heartwrenching decision, but we ended up rehoming him to a ranch (with no fences) this past December. In January, I started looking for a new dog and brought up the possibility of a yorkie. My hubby said YES this time!! The best part is, my hubby is hooked on our little fellow. I'm ready to get yorkie number two, but want to wait until the first is potty trained. |

| Three years ago, my oldest daughter wanted little yorkie for Christmas. The breeder I found had 2 females and 1 male. My daughter wanted a female so we were set. I first saw them when they were about 3 weeks old and kept very close touch with the breeder. About 2 weeks before we were to pick up the little female, the breeder told me she was so sad, she didn't think anyone wanted the little male; no inquires for males, only females. For some reason this just broke my heart. Hubby and I talked and decided we needed the little male, sight unseen. So when we went to pick up Kitti-Kitti, the female, we also got JPop. I'll tell you, when she handed him to me and my eyes met this little babies, I was hooked! I could have melted into a puddle right there. Hubby then decided about a 1 1/2 years later, we need another, thus Taz. Well this past fall, Taz and Kitti-Kitti were married, and we have their first born...TJ (Taz Jr.) I would love to have a little girl, so I may not be through yet. Don't ya just love 'em!! |

| Years ago on the news they had this tiny little dog that this woman found in the Albuquerque area. It was the cutest thing I'd ever seen and I instantly wanted one but they never said the same of the breed. Then about two years ago at work one of our venders brought his dog with him to deliver parts and I though it was the cutest thing. Plus, now that I had my own place I was looking for a small dog. He said it was a Yorkshire terrier so I instantly got on line to look into them. Turns out that's what that little dog on the news was too. Can you believe I was over 20 'til I knew what a Yorkie was?!

| Before I knew about the dangers of buying a puppy on-line, I decided I wanted a little dog of my own, so I bought a tiny little chihuahua from a breeder in Texas. When this little dog landed in Newark Airport and I opened the crate, I thought the breeder shipped me a mouse. She was soooooo small I could not believe it.. She was suppose to be 12 weeks but I think she was much younger than that. When I took her to my Vet she weighed 6 ounces, my Vet was furious with the breeder. Needless to say, she started having health problems almost immediately. Her breathing was shallow, she was not eating, seizures, etc.... After about 3 weeks and spending about $900 in Vet bill, and stay up nights to feed her every 2 hours, my poor little baby died. I was so devastated I cannot begin to tell you. As time past, I decided I wanted to try again but I could not bring myself to fall in love with another Chihuahua, so, I decided to get a different breed altogether. After much research, I decided that I wanted a Yorkie, so my search for a breeder began.. I found one very close to my house and as luck would have it, she had a little female available.. I went to her house, took one look at Desi and knew she was mine. 2-1/2 years later, I now have Desi and Millie and looking for a third.

Awww that's so sad about your first chihuahua. I actually met a breeder who had chihuahuas that small too. One in particular looked so tiny that it looked like it was sickly and could die any day. It's a shame that breeders will do that to animals.

| When I went to buy my first home the lady of the house had the most adorable yorkie. I knew I fell in love with the breed - love at first site. Anyway she had throw rugs all around the living room. After we bought the house I was cleaning and picked up the rugs to vacumn. The sweet little yorkie chewed right through the carpeting down to the plywood. I had to chuckle about it even thought I should have been really mad. Anyway, when I had my first little YT at least I knew what I was in for..... |

| When I was around 12 or 13 there was a lady on my street that had two Yorkie's. I loved them from the first moment I ever saw them. I never thought about getting one though...my family just never had purebred dogs. Then in 1989 a stray came into my life. A scraggly, skinny little girl who was as cute as she could be. I tried for two weeks to find her family and nothing. I was so in love by this time that I decided she was meant to be mine. I was so happy to finally have a Yorkie...and having her confirmed they were everything I thought they would be. I had her for 16 wonderful years. I still miss her so much. I'm so blessed to have found my little boy four months later.
