| Limping? Hi everyone! hope you are all enjoying your extended weekend (NIU has class tomorrow ) The reason I am writting this tonight is because I am concerned with Tony's back legs. It seems that every once in a while he will sort of skip one leg when he goes from a walk into a jog. Other times, when he is walking, he will just jut one leg out to the side. I am not sure if it is causing him pain or not. Could it be LP? if not, why is he doing it? |

Banning Thread Dictator Donating Member | I have no experience with LP, so take my advice with a grain of salt and talk to your vet. But I googled it, and it seems like your description could be LP. At the onset, it is described as a hopping or skipping by the dog. I just googled the below site, but it looks good. You might check it out. Hopefully, that's not it, but don't panic either way. I have an 11-year-old who had his cranial cruciate repaired surgically, and you wouldn't know he had ever been injured. http://www.italiangreyhound.org/health/patella.html

| It could be luxating patella or it could be Legg Perthes or maybe he just sprained it. If it doesnt get better I would take him to the vet and they can manipulate it and try to find the problem or do xrays to see what the problem is. |

| I have an appointment for tomorrow morning, it's been going on for about a month now so i don't believe that it is a sprain. my aunt had a yorkie and she said that it really looks like he has LP. I am so upset, i wanted to do amateur agility with him, but now I don't know. I read that Chan, Yorkiemalt's maltese, was just playing when his knee went from a 3 to a 4 and because i have two furkids now, i am so scared it is going to get worse because they play so hard. my baby loves to run and jump, it is his who he is i hope he is ok, we'll see tomorrow if anyone who has a pup diagnosed with LP could tell me what they do at the vet and the symptoms they experienced could let me know if they experienced something similar, please post! |

| I would bring him to the vet to find out for sure, and to rule out if he's not in pain. |

I hope everything goes well at the Vet this morning..... They can manipulate the leg and get a good idea of what's going on and if it is LP they can grade it for you. X-rays are a must and are done under sedation. So unless they told you not to feed him before today they'll probably make another appointment for them. Chan never showed any symptoms at all. Phoebi would occasionally have a "hop and a skip".....still not enough for surgery. That is until the dog attacked her in December.

| Mimi use to do the same thing..took her to the vet...vet said she has LP. I started to give her hip chips (recommended here) and she's been fine. |

| Went to the vet yesterday morning. Everything went very well. Tony is a whopping 6.8lbs now! Mia is 3.8. He said that everything looked great and that his little skip was just his thing, nothing else. Quote:
The x-rays were normal on his knees, but his right hip joint only covers 1/2 of his bone, compared to the 2/3 it is supposed to cover. The vet said that for his size he was super strong! The hip thing is going to be fine and not bother him, hopefully. He then gave me the ok to start agility training with him (which I am so excited about!).
