| EEK Cracked Paw Pads? Ok, Harley usually wears his little boots when there's ice etc outside but he didn't last night and this morning and I noticed that his little paw pads were a little raw and a little cracked and bled a tiny bit. I cleaned it with alcohol and then put neosporin (sp) on it and he seems good to go. But isn't there some kind of rub I can put on his feet? Somebody at work talked about it and said it was for husky type working dogs? Does anyone have a clue what I'm talking about? If so please let me know and tell me where I can buy some Thanks

| Oh shoot, someone posted about this a few weeks ago and I've already forgotten the answer There are several balms out there. Google 'cracked dog paws' and you will find several listed.

| Not sure about doggie balms but I use vasoline on Buddy's paws. I rub it in before bedtime a couple times a week. I read this in a Yorkie magazine so it's safe and does the trick. Carol & Buddy |

| As nurse I would suggest that you don't used alcohol as it is very drying. Warm water and mild soap should do it. Yes vaseline is great as is Bag Balm and other emollients put on immediately to seal in the moisture When you use these products you may find the poops are looser if your baby is a licker. If the cracks are really bad, before you go to bed (I'm assuming you baby sleeps with you) put little on his paws and put little socks over them. I hope he is better soon.

No Longer a Member | Another thing to use--totally safe, fragrance free, and you prolly have it in your home--Crisco shortening. IMO, it is better than petroleum jelly. They even use it on people after skin surgeries. And if he licks it off, it won't hurt him. |

| There's a product called Musher's Secret for outside working dogs. I use vaseline too and it works great. For Hallie sometimes I will use Rosebud Salve because she likes her little feet massaged and she doesn't lick them like Simon does |

| Wow! Thanks for the quick and helpful responses The bag balm and the mushers secret is exactly what I was trying to remember! First I'm going to try the vasoline w/ the socks before bedtime to see if that will do the trick. Thanks for the tip on the alcohol good to know I'll keep you posted
