| Groming question?Confused Hello everyone I went to a new store today call purebred pup and they do grooming and sell cloths furniture, food the whole 9 yards. I brought lexi with me, and the lady said that she needed to be groomed. I said she was groomed last friday at petsmart and the lady looked at me funny. Then she started to point out all the things they didn't do. She pointd out that inside of her ears had was in them and there was still hair in there and proceded to pull on the hair in the ear. lexi yelped and i got nervous. Do groomers pull on the hair in the ear to get the hair out instead of cut it? she said they do the bc the root isnt deep. She then looked at her paws and said they weren't cut close enough and her eye hair wasn't either. Then she said petsmart didnt wash out the shampoo good enough bc she found a few white flakes...she said it was shampoo residue. I am not sure, lexi looked nicely groomed to me when i picked her up last week. So what do you look for in a good groomer, is this lady or is she just trying to make a sale???????Can someone tell me about the ear hair ripping out thing...it freaks me out. We are new at this, we have only had her 7weeks now!!!What should i do? thanks for the help.

| Yes they do pull the ear hair out. I am not a groomer nor have I taken Reagan yet so I can't tell you the specifics. However, I read on here someone who did it at home who said that they did it a few hairs at a time. So I tried it and pulling just a few really didn't seem to bother Reagan at all. It would take forever to get them all out by just pulling a few though so they (groomers) may pull a bunch (well maybe not a bunch but a few more than a few) at a time and that might hurt the dog, or just startle her, at first. Like I said I don't know specifics but I do know that they pull it out. I have to say though I don't know how I would feel about someone looking over my pup and saying all the things that needed to be done, unless I asked, which you may have done.

| Most grooming for a yorkie includes pulling the hair out the ears (which some use a powder to make it less painful) trim the booty area; trim the nails, and hair around the paw. Plus however you want the hair to be cut. I think I covered everything. Yesterday I took Cordelia to http://www.thepawspa.com/ she does everything in a little building behind her house. She even brushed Cordelia’s teeth.

| Hey lexi's mom- I work for the petco grooming salon in my area and in my opinion this lady was just trying to make a sale. Alot of groomers for smaller grooming salons will do this badmouthing to make sales. More than likely your Petsmart didn't pluck all of Lexi's ear hair because she is young and instead of plucking it all they did a little of it and the next time she gets groomed they will do more. I do it this way because I don't want the dog to be scared to death everytime I get next to its ears. We do pluck the ear hair but we use powder that makes it less painful to the dog and some dogs dont even notice it being done because it has been done the right way and they get used to it. Another thing that your groomer might have done is not trim the foot hair too short because most of the time we dont trim yorkie foot hair really short. I wouldnt stress too much about this lady but I would have to say to not let her get her hands on your baby again. My opinion that was rude. I am sure that Lexi llooked just perfect. Petsmart has some very good groomers. I know that they are very picky about the groomers that they hire just like Petco. Kelly |

| I want to thank everyone for the advice. No, i didn't ask the lady any questions about grooming. While I was holding lexi looking at little clothes she came over to me and asked to hold her, I said okay. Then she started the conversation by saying she needed to be groomed and I replied that she was groomed last friday. The rest of the story is on my first post. I was really freaked out by the ear hair pulling...i came right home and got on here. The lady said lexi's shampoo wasn't washed out all the way bc she has some little white flakes. I just thought the shampoo used was too abrassive or not the kind we use so her skin took a reaction to it. What do you think? It looks like dandruff...it's not bad at all just in a few spots it looks like her skin is dried out. Also a question about how ofter I should have her groomed. SHe is 14 weeks, i have had her groomed twice now bc her eye hair gets so long. It averages three weeks is that too much. And teeth brushing was mentioned, do alot of groomers brush teeth. thank you again so much. I feel alot better now that i know about the ear hair pulling.

| I also think that was very rude of that lady to say those things to you! You should have told her to go suck an egg. People like that irritate me! I'm sure Lexi looked darling as usual and too bad she didn't poop on that lady! |

| If the shampoo wasn't rinsed out all the way then she would more than likely be greasy feeling. Her skin may have had a reaction to the shampoo and that is what is causing the flakes. Next time you take her in ask them to give her a hypo allergenic bath so that she doesn't have a reaction to the shampoo or ask them to give her a remoisturizing bath so that it helps her dry skin. That lady was very rude. Reguardless of how bad a dog looks I never tell some one that their dog needs to be groomed. Occasionally when some one comes in with a new puppy I offer to give them a free nail trim. Most people are over joyed to get this. |

Donating YT 14K Club Member | benefit-of-a-doubt time...I don't think that the lady was trying to be rude or anything. She was just pointing out what she saw. You don't have to use her as a groomer, you could just find another. We had to shop around to find a good groomer. The one we had closed up her business. I used a local feed store and they did a horrible job and charged me $60! I usually just do my own from shaving their butts, tipping their ears, pulling ear hairs, paws, pads. It's not hard once you get the hang of it. They also sell kits that come with videos to show you how to do it. |

| I don't think the lady had any right to go ahead and pull her hair out of her ears, unless she asked you for permission first! Some people think that they are superior to others and just take control. They may not have totally rinsed the shampoo/conditioner out or maybe it's just the type of shampoo that's a little rough on her skin. I had to try quit a few before I noticed that Andy's skin wasn't dried up looking by his belly. I don't pull the hair out of the ears, I just trim and clean them everytime I shampoo...Theresa & The Boys |

| grooming- lexi's mom Oh please do not go back to that place & never let a strange person hold your dog. It takes all of 3 seconds to ruin a dog. Puppies usually take time to get use to having the hair plucked out. & not much hair is usually taken off a yorkie anywhere unless u want a short puppy cut or a schnauzer cut. The ears & butt area are trimmed & the underpads of the feet & toenails. It sounds as though you like the petsmart groomer as well as your dog so I would go there. That person that pulled your pups ear hair was very unethical & should have been reported to the store manager.

| They wouldnt want to grab hold of my dogs, I might grab back. Thats the sillyest thing i've heard of . Telling someone their dog isnt groomed right. Wonder if petsmart would do that to one of her custmers if she has any. Rude Lady.

| Usually a person's gut feeling is right, and it sounds as though you felt PetSmart had done a good job. The other woman should never have pulled your puppy's ear hair out with out asking you--especially since she wasn't the puppy's groomer. Go where you feel comfortable |

| thank you everyone. I feel so much better now that i have gotten such great advice. No, she didn't ask if she could pull her ear hair out, she just showed me her ear hair and proceeded to pull. Was not expecting that one. Lexi is fine, and so is mommy. I am just worried about finding the best groomer. I liked petsmart before, but now i am wondering. I guess i keep thinking over and over in my head about what the lady said about her ears not being cleaned out and her paws not being cut close enough. Lexi always looks cute, her hair is very smooth and shinny. Smells good, we dress her up, put bows in her hair, keep her nails trimmed. She gets brushed twice a day sometimes more just because she likes it. Bath time isn't a nightmare like others have experienced, she kinda enjoys it. Thank you everyone. You all have been great. I guess I need to be more careful who i let hold her. I just never thought that someone would just do what they wanted with her without my permission and me standing right in front of them. I would never have the gull to just pull the ear hair out of someone else's dogs ear. I guess that is just me. Lexi says ,"thanks we wove you wall. "

| Ear plucking is normal. It is done on several breeds. They say after a few times, the dog doesn't even feel it. I know when I pluck my eyebrows, I sure feel it. Good question though. |
