| False Emergencies How many times have you brought your fur-babies to the vet thinking it was something only to find it was nothing? Here are the times I have: 1. We had had Wes for less than a week when we noticed that he had something hard coming out of his back end. My boyfriend tried to pull it out, but it wouldn't budge. We thought he had something he was trying to pass that got stuck. It was about 10 pm at the time so our regular vet was closed. We rushed him to a 24 hour emergency vet. The vet took one look, took out the hair clippers, and shaved it off. It turns out it was just dried poop. Then he charged us $125. 2. Maddie had been doing a scary gasping honking thing at night that would wake us up in a panic. I thought she might have pnemonia. The vet looked her over and declared her healthy. 3. We took Maddie back to the vet for her honking because I didn't believe their last diagnosis. They took x-rays. They said that she has a flap of skin that flaps around and the honking is to get it back in place. 4. Just last week...I got home from work at 5pm. Wesley threw up once. Then again. And again. He threw up 9 times in 2 hours. He started throwing up white foam b/c he had no food left in him. After the 9th time, I said, "if he throws up one more time, we're taking him to emergency." He did. Since it was after hours, we had to go to a 24 hour place again. Of course, when we got there, Wes showed no signs of being sick. The vet listened to his heart, weighed him, and took his temperature. Then charged us $65. He had no symptoms after that. I don't mean to say that I regret taking Wes and Maddie to the vet any of these times. Even though the visits have cost me money, I think they were worth it for my peace of mind. I don't know what I would do if anything happened to my babies. I just feel that since they are so little, their health can deteriorate so fast, so to me it's better to be safe than sorry. Has anyone else had any experiences like this? (Or maybe it's only me and I'm just too paranoid ) |

| You're not paranoid, you're a concerned mommy. OK, here's mine One night our little angel threw up in bed. It looked like a giant worm. Kind of yellow-white and long and thin like spaghetti. I saved it until the next morning when I called the vet and insisted they let me bring him in and the "worm". They squeezed us in first thing. Dr M examined the dog then he looked at the now dried creature that I brought with me. He took it to his lab and came back in a few min laughing (he swore it was with me not at me). He said "do you use dental floss?" Well, yes, every night..both of us why. "this is what dental floss looks like after hanging around in a puppy tummy for a while." That was only a $35.00 appt. But they were having such a busy day they appreciated the good laugh.

| Thats kinda funny! I am the same way - I feel so over protective! When we first got Truffles, my husband stepped on her with his steel toed boots on, and poor baby was crying and running with her leg up in the air. By the time we left for the vet she seemed fine, but I took her anyway. She was fine - dr couldn't even make her whimper. Then I had to leave town and left her here with my sons and had a friend come over twice a day. When I got home she was running but with a limp. I took her again. This time they could validate what I saw, but said it would heal fine - it was minor. Now the big ones. I have figured Vixxen out now! But for the first year, I think I actually had her admitted into the hospital 2 times because she wouldn't eat and then would vomit. I was worried she'd dehydrate quickly and rushed her in. SOME ERs convince you that your pet has to stay and I'M convinced they just want the money. Anyway, now I know how to "force" Vixxen to eat when she gets this way and she hasn't had to go back since I figured her out! So yes, I've racked up the bucks right along with ya! Ouch....

| This is funny. I took Pookie to the vet after she threw up following her shots. Nothing really wrong, it upset her system. Then we had a near miss when she had poo half in and half out of her butt. I think it was stuck in her hair. She managed to get it all out before we took off for the ER. We've had her about 3 mos. So there you go. |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I usually run mine in for everything just to be safe. I am trying not to be so paranoid now with 3 of them. Right now Maya the pom has had diahrrea for 2 days but started eating again today, I have some meds from before that I was finally able to get her to eat with her food this morning, Cali has loose stools and won't eat today. Pixie is eating but has a little bit of loose stools and has been making thiw weird noise with her mouth/toungue like she is smacking something in her mouth. I am trying hard not to panic and run them all in. I figure I will give it one more day. I am thinking it may be a change in diet for Maya, Cali may be the same as she is eating Pixies hard food now and then and Pixie is getting a little wet wellnes with her kibble, but these changes have been ongoing for 2 1/2 weeks so I'm not sure.

| Great stories! I love the one where it turned out to be stuck poo. I heard that a butt plug or stuck poo can turn into a problem. Dried poo in the butt area can end up blocking new poo from coming out. Piper fell of the bed when she was little. She was limping, so I took her in. Vet checked it & it wasn't broke. She was walking on it by evening.

| Whew! I'm SO glad I'm not the only "paranoid" mommy out there! Thanks for fessing up ladies I took Braxton in to the vet because he had what looked like "eye boogers" in his wiskers by his mouth. I was terrified he had some fungus growing in his mouth or something. His teeth looked fine - no bad breath but I figured as soon as I didn't take him, my kids would break out with a rash or trench mouth or something! So the vet was very polite - she checked his heart and lungs, looked in his mouth, ears...listened to me closely...then told me to just take him home and clean him up. He probably just drools when he sleeps. *DOH* HE DOES - I didn't even think about that! $45 please! Better safe than sorry. I would have worried sick had I not taken him in.

| Ok here are mine: #1 Lilo was playing with the bee annd got stung by it. I took her to ER vet and they looked at her and gave her benadryl. It costed me $100 but it was worth it BC I had no clue if she will have bad alergic reaction or not. #2 after Lilo got spayed, she was licking on her incision so much that it got red and swallen, so I took her to my vet and she give me E-collar for her. ( I paid only $18 since it was surgery related). this same day after I left her home with the E-collar on , she almost chocked her self to death on it, and she menaged to ripp one of her stitches out. so next day we ended ut at the vet again!!! they put bandage around her waist, and send her home (no charge this time).

| A good Yorkie mom will worry about everything! I'm lucky (I think) because I work for a vet. He on the other hand thinks I'm over the top with my Yorkies. I ask more questions, want him to look at, examine and discuss every possible concern. I'm so glad I'm not the only one out there this way!! |
