| Pooping and Bitting problem HELP! At little long, but please read..... 10wks 3days old today! Pooping: I've always read that it is harder to train a yorkie boy than a girl, but why does my new baby boy (Bentley) use his training pads to pee, but poops next to it on the floor. I started out using paper, and he did really well peeing and pooping on that, but he will not poop on the traing pads. Even if he out playing I can notice his running to his training pad to pee, but if he has to poop he will just go on the floor. I do snatch his up and place him on the pad when I notice in time, but a lot of the time it's already too late. Please help! Bitting: My husband and I spend 20 mins in Petsmart tring to choose the perfect chew toys for his little teeth. We got five toys, a variety of textures and sizes, but all small enough for him. He'd rather chew and bit on my human fingers or toes, bed spreads, paper, or whatever else he shouldn't chew and bit on. I know this will talk a little time. I need to call the Dog Whisperer and let him know that that (schhhhh...)sound does not work with Bentley! I'm just wondering if this is normal and he will grow out of it or it this can become a serious problem. Right now he little and really doesn't do any damage, but his little teeth or started to get a sharper and my three year old daughter is starting to want to bite back! Any advise please......... |

| Everything your pup is doing is perfectly normal. Being only 10wks he dosen't know better. Everything is game at this point. He has to be taught what is his and what is not. I would not say a male is more difficult to train than a female. In general Yorkies are known to be very difficult to train however it is not impossible. Buddy was trained by 5mos. It was a very time consuming process however in the end determination paid off. I never used a pee pad. Only outside potty permitted. You need a schedule to follow and follow it daily. He will get it eventually. They are no different than a baby. Would a baby at 10wks know not to potty in it's diaper? Your only getting started so be patient. Use an x-pen or play pen or put a gate up across the kitchen limiting space for him. Monitor him when he is not in that space. Yorkies are very smart. Only time will make him the pet you want. Good luck. Carol & Buddy |

| Thanks for the advice! I have not started training him to go outside yet, but I really think that I will start immediatedly (tomorrow). If you don't mind, could you give me an example of a day in the life of you and your pups outdoor potty training??? |

Everything is very Normal for your baby. My baby Girl was Hard to train but it takes patience. I now have her littler trained and it works wonders. As for the bitting that is very normal too. Bella my baby thats all she did was bit my finger and yes her teeth were sharp enough to draw blood. She had no intrest in toys at first all she wanted was flesh. so I let her bit my finger when they had some really hot sauce on them and she hasn't bit me since.

| Lullabelle That's a good one! Maybe I need to put some hot sauce on my fingers and toes. The way my baby eats he may like it! |

I took him out IF HE DID HIS BUSINESS. I used a very little piece of liverwurst as the special reward. Never use the same reward in the house only for outside potty. Make it special so they have something to look forward too. I know it was a long period of time in the crate but I had no choice and Buddy was fine. I did not put water in there with him. He got water when he was out in the am and at lunch time and after 5:30. Again no water at nightime in the crate. He was there to sleep. He never messed in the create, not once. Today he has full run of the house and I am gone for 9hrs. Never an accident. He was completely trained by 5mos and water was left at this time during the day if he needed it. I left him gated in the kitchen until he was about 1yr then let him loose during the day. He had some chewing problems during this time but we over came it. It takes time and patience. Good luck. Carol & Buddy P.S. same schedule on the weekends until he was trained.
