| Just got a Yorkie!! Need Help! Hi!! well I just got a yorkie, her name is TinkerBell but I like calling her Tinky! She is such a sweet dog even though she looooves chewing on everything in the house (what should i do about that?) Her past owner didn't take much care of her and they didn't provide me with basically any information about her...so im pretty lost and I need a lot of help...Ok so when I got her she had a lot of fleas, I've been washing her every week and it's been going away but i think i have them in my house now...is there any type of safe flea bomb I can use in my house to kill them????....also because of the fleas, she scratches her skin a lot and she now has cuts on her skin....What can I use for that???...Ok I also noticed she trembles a lot, even when shes sleeping...whats that about???.. Now this is the important question...she is a little bit older than 12 months and she still hasn't had her period...I checked for a scar around that area, to see if she's neutered but I don't see any....I 'm taking her to the doctor soon and I'm hoping they can answer all these question but if you guys can help...that would be great ....oh yea one more question..lol...her coat is not shinny(it kind of matt) what can i use to give her a shinny coat |

| Hi and welcome & congrats on your new pet. You need to have the pup looked at and treated for fleas soon as possible. That can be very irritating to a pup which may explain her moving at night. You also need to SCRUB everything in your house that the pup has sat in or next to. Once you scrub everything down, put the flea spray over the places where flea eggs may harbour. Good luck as that can be so uncomfortable for your pet. Once you visit the vet, take your dog to the groomer and let them do a flea bath if not to strong. I've heard of pets catching fleas at the Vet's office, so please be careful. There are a lot of products for sale by some of the Yt members under the yorkie products for sale topic. You should check out some of the stores they have here for shampoos and conditioners.

I Love Thor Donating Member | Well! Welcome to YT. You've come to the right place my friend! I'll try and answer a few questions. She is such a sweet dog even though she looooves chewing on everything in the house (what should i do about that?) Make sure that you have bones or alternitive things that are okay for her to chew on. You can spray area's that you don't want chewed on with Bitter Apple Spray, or you can smear Tabasco on the things she seems to be chewing on! I would suggest 'baby proofing' your house, but picking up and putting away anything she could potentially chew on. is there any type of safe flea bomb I can use in my house to kill them??? Have you treated her with flea medication such as Frontline? I would suggest that. Frontline Plus kills eggs, larvi, young and adult fleas. A flea bomb alternitive would be to liberally sprinkle Borax (laundry detergent) on your carpets and vacume. Just vacume your brains out. You can Google 'Borax and Fleas' and you'll get alot of info on that subject. also because of the fleas, she scratches her skin a lot and she now has cuts on her skin....What can I use for that??? You can use Benadryl, but of course small dogs only need a very small amount (I can't find the proper amount, but I'm sure you could google this also) This would help with the itching and reactions she may be having from the flea bites. Since her skin is alread irritated, make sure you do not wash her too much as this could contribute to the drying out and irritating of her skin. Make sure you rinse her very thouroughly to avoid potential irritation from soap. Soothing bath (from Lexi's_Mommy http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sho...enadryl+dosage ) "Aveno Tip Take 2 coffee filters and pour and sew or staple them into a pouch and pour the aveno into it and then finish sewing it closed. (kinda like a tea bag). Make a VERY hot bath and put the aveno pouch in it. By the time the water cools enough to put her in the oatmeal has spread with out the mess. If you put her in the bath without making a pouch the oatmeal will be a pain in the rump to get out of her hair." I also noticed she trembles a lot, even when shes sleeping...whats that about? I'm sure you have, but make sure she has blankets or towels to keep her warm at night, etc. She is probably just very nervous and it may be a few days until she stops this constant trembling. I would talk to you doctor about this for sure. I hope some of this helps. Good luck, and we'd all love to see pictures! Welcome to YT!!!!!! |

I Love Thor Donating Member | http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sho...enadryl+dosage See post number four for Benadryl dosage. But as always, talk to your vet first to consult before giving your dog any medications. |

This is a girl? If so, she would have a scar on her tummy if she has been spayed. Boys get neutered. There are so many products that you can use for shampooing and conditioning. Right now I am using Johnson's Baby shampoo (because if I accidentally get it in her eyes, it won't burn). As I get better at it I will explore other options there but I don't want it to hurt her because of my ineptness. For conditioner, I use Pantene. However, my breeder uses suave shampoo and conditioner. Hope I have been able to help you at least a tad. Blessings on your new year old baby. Sammi | |

| It sounds like your little one found a good and caring home. Only someone special would put up with the mess that someone else left through neglect. You are on the right track for a happy and healthy dog. Good luck!
