| Yorkie's on Planes... Hey Everyone!! I'm traveling next week...and want to take my Punky with me. My only issue is...she's never flown...and I'm scared she'll freak out. My sis takes her Yorkie on planes...almost every time she travels; however, she's been doing that since he was a baby. Another reason that I'm apprehensive about having my girl fly...is that she has this weird breathing problem when she gets excited. She's also only 2lbs (2 years old). Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! |

| The only time I've flown with my Yorkie was to bring Angel home at 14 weeks. If you do decide to fly, you need to call your airline and make a specific reservation for the pup. There is a max of two animals in the cabin. You will also need a health certificate from your vet indicating she is up to date with vaccinations and healthy. Most airlines will ask to see this, so if you don't have it they will not let her on board. Your carrier has to meet specific size requirements which vary with each airline. Most will not allow the carrier to be taller than 10", but some require 8", and the sides need to be somewhat firm and well ventilated. The carrier will go under your seat and unless you get very nice flight attendants, that is where she will stay for the entire flight. And, each airline charges a fee for carrying on a pet, ranging anywhere from $50 to $90 EACH way. As for the anxiety, you can ask your vet about Rescue Remedy or something else they might recommend. Good luck with your decision.

| actually if the pet is travelling in cabin with you, you most likely do not need a health certificate. American Airlines and Northwest do not require them. However, the place you are traveling to may require it, so you'll want to check into that. I've travelled many times with Winnie and have not once been asked to show the health certificate. I always have one just in case though. If the health certificate is required, then it will have to be dated no more than 7 days before the travel date. Make sure you don't sit in the window seat...there's always a draft there. Aisle is usually best. And get your baby used to the carrier you will be using on the plane. Also each airline has specifications for the carriers they will allow, make sure yours complies. They are very strict on this. Good luck in your travels. |

| Oh no...well I do have a window seat. It's one of those small jets that only have like 16 rows...and on the left side..there's only 1 seat per row. I'm in one of those 1 seaters. I hope I have nice flight attendants...that'll let her sleep on my lap under a blanket. Thanks for the advice ladies.. I'm still very doubtful about this whole thing. |

| I will be taking JoJo on a plane in the future but I have been preparing him the best I can. Since you are leaving next week you don't have a lot of time. First, check with the airline as already stated since each has different requirements. I am flying within the country and still need the vet certificate and also their is no restriction to how many animals are on my flight. Get their bag size requirement as well. I am also getting an aisle seat so we have a little more room. I have been preparing him by getting him used to the bag he will be traveling in and going for car rides where the bag is under my legs to simulate what will happen in the airplane (obviously I am not doing the driving!). We go for some longer rides as well but not as long as the plane ride will be. I am also getting him used to a belly band (he is seven months old and hasn't worn one before this) in case of an accident but of course I can't prevent anything more than peeing! At least the initial "sniffing and what is this" scenerio will be over since he has worn it before. I also plan on bringing some new toys and special treats and will try to restrict food and water a few hours before the flight (I think I read somewhere 5 hours with no food and water is advisable, but I don't think that will work for us). I will also try to play with him quite a bit before we leave so he is tired. Also, I am having my clothes shipped ahead of time so I do not have to wait for luggage. By then I am sure he will be beside himself and want out! I can only hope he will behave! One last thing, I will not be doing this but my vet said since he is in good health she could prescribe a sedative but I am afraid to do that. Good luck!

| what airline are you flying? I flew american and I was not allowed to sit on the side of the jet that had only one seat. They require that you sit on the side with 2 seats if you are flying with an animal...it shouldnt be a problem though, because they'll just switch your seat once you are boarded. |

| United Airline required me to have a health certificate for Angel to fly in the cabin and this flight was just under two weeks ago. I would double-check with American because if they ask and you don't have one, they will not let her on board. Also, in this cold weather, make sure you have a warm blanket in her carrier. The floor boards get very cold....

| From the american airlines website: Health Requirements American does not require a health certificate for the acceptance of pets for travel in the cabin or as checked baggage within the 50 United States. However, we encourage you to contact your family veterinarian or state authorities directly for individual state requirements to avoid any possible inconvenience at your final destination. All states require proof of current rabies vaccination for dogs over 12 weeks old and some require proof of rabies vaccination for cats. here's all the info you'll need: http://www.aa.com/aa/i18nForward.do?...horEvent=false |

| Extreme turbulence, but Junior did great! Hello all, As some of you know, I just flew home to CA from FL on Superbowl Sunday. I connected in Atlanta on the way home. Junior did absolutely great! I couldn't believe it, but it was not easy. I was NOT asked for any health documentation, only if the carrier was big enough for puppy to turn around, and whether it had a plastic lining on the bottom. However, the turbulence was horrible. In my experience, and I travel very frequently, the turbulence was far beyond normal. The flight attendants and passengers didn't move for over 2 hrs!! It was so bad. The carrier I had, is like a purse style, so I had Junior on the empty seat next to me the whole time. However, once the turbulence got bad, I had to take him out! He was bouncing inside the bag, it was crazy!! So I thought, what's the worst they can do, kick me off the plane? They didn't see anything, so no big deal. However, I heard they can fine u if u take them out and it gets ugly. Junior wasn't as scared as I was, I just held him in the blanket and he fell asleep in my arms. I highly recommend the carrier I had for your tiny baby. It's red and brown and on sale right now at petsmart for only $20! I just saw it today!! Hope this info was helpful and feel free to contact me if you need anymore info!! Your baby will do just great! Some pics on the plane, oh and 1 for proof we made it home!!

| United does require a health certificate, whether or not travel is in or out of USA. Here id the link to the info they post http://www.united.com/page/article/0,6722,1048,00.html Please note*** all dogs travelling through the EU must have the microchip implanted. A single kennel is limited to one pet. However, 2 kittens or puppies under 10 weeks of age are allowed in one kennel. During taxi, takeoff and landing the pet kennel must be stowed under the seat in front of you. The pet must remain in the closed and sealed pet kennel throughout the flight. The total number of pet kennels allowed on a flight varies as far as the type of aircraft. It can go from 3-5 pets per aircraft, depending on how many cabins or aircraft type. I am referring to mainline, not the regional feeder airlines. Passengers with a pet kennel may not be seated in an exit row or other restricted seats depending upon the aircraft type once again. It is best to check in early so that you will be able to sort out all the regulations. Always let reservations note that you will have a pet in the cabin. Again, some of these regulations may vary slightly airline to airline. Check the airline website or call their 800 number to learn more.

| Aww yes, well I wasn't asked a thing when I recently flew with my Vixxen! I guess it depends on the day and the people you encounter, as they are all different! So I will tell you that my 4.5 lb went with me in her Juicy Couture carrier. To my surprise, the airport will let you walk your dog on the leash inside! There were dogs everywhere! One not even on a leash! I had to hold her while her carrier went through the xray and I was also never asked to show proof of HER ticket! On either flight. Anyway, the flight there I took her out to comfort her and got "busted" and asked to put her away! So I hid her in her big blanket on my lap! And on the way back home, I did the same. I just felt horrible leaving her on the floor all alone with all that noise under her! It worked fine for me and I will fly with her in the future! Also didn't even think of having a health certificate so thankfully I was never asked for that either! It's kinda fun flying with your baby! You'll be fine!
