| Good and Bad News..... Hi Everyone, This is my first time posting to the site. I have been visiting for a while. I purchased my first yorkie for Christmas 2006. Unfortunately he was born with an infection in his intestines and liver. He passes away when he was 11 weeks old. His name was Gizmo. The breeder was very helpful and willing to either give back the money I paid or let me have pick of the litter when ever I was ready. My husband and I just got our new pup (Bentley) a week ago, tomorrow! So far so good! The vet has given him a clean bill of health and we have started him on the healthy puppy plan at our local animal hospital and we purchase medical insurance through my husband's job. Right now I'm still a little nervous, but he seems to be doing really well and despite everything I've heard about boys being hard to paper train, he has only had one accident in six days!!!!! The only problem I have is trying to figure out how to get him to stop bitting everything, including me!!! When the vet asked me why I name him Bentley, I told her it's because my husband said he was high maintenance. She said, I should have called him Piranha since he bits so much!!! I'll post pictures as soon as I figure out how to do it! |

| LOL I bet lil piranha is a cutie. Every time he bites stick a toy in his mouth and say no bite. The good news is every puppy goes through that and out grows it so it will just take time. I am sorry about gizmo

For the biting thing Ive heard many suggestions 1. spray him with water when he bites 2. replace your bodypart with a toy in his mouth 3. (what I did) I gently but authoritatively held his little mouth shut and got his attention by looking him straight in the eyes and said "NO BITE!" I didnt yell at him. I just said it firmly. He usually immediately started licking where he bit. It only took about a week to train him using this method, but its different for every puppy. Whatever you decide just give him time to understand and get it. Keep with the same method. Good Luck! I have 2 boys and they are over a year old and STILL not housebroken!! I think whoever said boys were hard to housebreak was right on the money! haha | |

| Welcome! So glad you were able to find another little one to love, especially after the loss of little Gizmo. I like the "high maintenance" name idea of Bentley -- I have a Mercedes and Benz (better known as Sadie and Ben). Mine are only high maintenance because we love to spoil them so much. They have done in a throw rug or two but all in all not too bad so far. Both of mine did the biting thing. Sharp little teeth! But they both outgrew it quickly. I would just say, "No bite" and if they continued I would stop playing with them. They catch on. Now if I can stop their sporadic rending of pee pads, I will feel even better.

| Welcome! Sorry about Gizmo....glad you got a new baby to love! I had the same problem with Shadow. I just gave him lots of things to chew on. I went to the pet store and got things for puppies. It worked great for us.

| hey there. congrats on your new puppy. whenever nico use to bite i would put a little "bitter apple" spray on my finger and put it in his mouth and say "no bite" it also worked for barking. now nico does not bite at all. nico still needs a little reminding on no barking but we are getting there! good luck w your puppy. |

| Congratulation on your new baby and also I'm sorry about little Gizmo.... Seems like you got one healthy boy!!! It isn't too late to change name!! My Momiji is a little "piranha" herself. Just like sweetsnugglie, I use bitter apple spray on any electronics cord and she stop biting. Luckly she hasn't bite much of the furniture yet but she sure loves my finger!!!! |
