| Adult Yorkies and Food Intake I have had my first Yorkie for a month now. I am not sure how much food I should be feeding Sadie a day. The breeder was not sure as she fed about 7 Yorkies at once. Some were adults and some were newborns. I have been feeding her about 1/4 cup of hard food, plus 1/4 cup of soft canned food, plus a tiny bit of lettuce together for her breakfast. I always leave hard food in her dish. For dinner, I do the same thing that I do for breakfast, but instead of lettuce, she gets carrots. I give her about 5 cheerios a day, or else jerky for treats. During the past few days, I have been feeding her more as she cleans up her bowl. She has not put close to a lb. on. She was 5.5 lbs. when I got her, but due to the stress of a new home, she went down to 5 lbs. Now, she is up to 6 lbs. She looks healthy to me, as I always thought she was skinny at 5.5 lbs., but the vet said she was fine. After I weighed her today, I have cut back on her food, and keeping to the schedule I listed above. What do you do with your adult Yorkies? How many times a day do you feed them, and how much? Thanks everyone. Kate |

| Lady is 18 months old and Jess is now a year old and I leave dry food out 24/7 but feed them canned 3 times a day..they also get human food treats during the day and a little of what we are eating etc...I also top up their dry food bowls (yes, they have 2) if they happen to eat it all during the day.I would say that mine eat ALOT! lol. They arent over weight at all, infact Lady is at 2lbs and on a high calory diet to keep her weight at 2lbs and Jess is 7lbs.They also have water bowls all over the house..basiclly they can eat when they want. How and when you feed your baby is totally up to you because different methods work in different ways for us all A feeding schedule wouldent work for mine at all which is why I free feed, but alot of people have schedules and it works great for them The only thing I dont agree with and find cruel is a water schedule, which I have heard of and get very upset about..water should be avalable at all times. |

| Thank you for this info. I agree, water is a must, and should be fresh always. Kate Quote:
