| Whats the best way to introduce a new Yorkie? What have you guys done when you brought home your 2nd or 3rd yorkie to ease the transition for both dogs? How do I get them to like each other? I have a 2 year old male (who is neutered) and he is a little protective sometimes. We are looking into getting another yorkie (a female) and want the two of them to get off to a good start! I don't want our current yorkie to be jealous or feel 2nd rate and at the same time I want the new one to feel loved and safe. How do I acheive this without Ceasar Milan's help?? LOL Thanks for your input...I really appreciate all the help you guys offer me...yorkietalk is like a big family and I am so happy to be apart of it now! Generally how long does it take for them to adjust to each other??

| I'm basically in the same situation. I have a boy who's two years old, 4 pounds and is nuetered and very attached to me. I just got a baby girl, she is now, almost 15 weeks old and under 2 pounds. My boy, Jaden, has never been aggresive in the slightest. Doesn't bite, nip, or even really growl or snarl. He's as sweet as pie! When I brought my little girl home, the first day I had Jaden in my arms and she came up to pull on the blanket he was sitting on and he started growling at her. I told him no but he was upset...the next day I decided to let her down with him and she went to go into his bed and he got very upset and snarled at her. Since then I've kept them seperated unless I am there to watch them. I started off just holding both of them in my arms for a few minutes everyday. Then, if we went someplace new that neither of them felt was "their" territory I'd let them down and Jaden didn't seem as aggresive towards her. He still has his issues, especially around his bed, he doesn't like her there at all. He's not used to being with another dog and my vet said these things can just take time, even a few months, he said some dogs adapt faster than others. For now, I keep them in their room with a baby gate dividing them so they can still see and smell each other through the gate but I know no one is going to be getting hurt if my back is turned. Be sure to give your older yorkie plenty of attention. Jaden will get very jealous of Jewelina if I do not give him TONS of attention! Jaden always gets the first hello pat, gets the treats first, groomed first everything. My little one does complain about this sometimes but I think it is mainly because she likes Jaden so much and wants to be with him and doing the same things that he is doing and not that she feels "second best" or anything like that. I am hoping in time, perhaps once Jewelina calms down a bit, (she is a typical puppy and wants to play 24/7 and Jaden is very layed back) Jaden will learn to like her more. I don't worry about her at all because she already loves him...I'm just waiting for him to come around and do something more than just "tolerate" her. |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I just introducded Pixie into our family and she is a 13 month old female and Cali is definately not happy but she is such a sweetheart that she is tolerating her. I just make sure Cali gets a lot of attention and always gets her treats. WHen Pixie is rewarded for using the pee pad Cali also gets a treat. I do feel kind of bad for Cali because she seems sad and I thought she would love a friend closer to her age than Maya. Maya just looks at her like she's an annoyance. I will keep you posted as the weeks go on to see if they become friends.

| This is so helpful to read as I'm seriously considering getting a little brother or sister for my 1-year-old. I worry about him being lonely. Do you think they are happier with a playmate or having Mommy all to himself? I really need some advice

| I really think they enjoy having a playmate. My breeder said they do well in pairs. And to the op I have two a male and a female. I got my male first. When we introduced Jewels we brought her in and kept her in the crate we brought her home in and let Chachi sniff her. Then we brought her out while my Husband petted on Chachi and let him sniff her. They have always got along great. Evvery now and then one of them will growl at the other one because of something but it is rare. They are great buddies

| I haven't had to many problems with all of mine, sure they will growl and not be to happy at first, but what I always do is let the older ones sniff the new one and then the new one the old ones...make sure you old ones still get alot of attention..but in a couple of days they will be playing like best friends...

| Sissy is 18 months old and Angel is 14 weeks and has been us for one week now. Sissy loves to play and we've had several playdates with other Yorkies. There was lots of tackling (from both girls) during the first few days, but on the 2nd day they were also playing tug-o-war and just cohabitating. Now, they are actually laying by each other. I think it has helped having them eat of the same bowl (dry kibble). I think they are doing very well together. They have actually been alone for very short periods of time together and have done fine. I separate them if I'm gone for more than 1/2 hour just in case...... Sissy doesn't seem to be jealous when Angel is getting attention, but she is still getting lots herself. I think they are going to be good buddies and playmates.

| I think once they get along they do better in pairs... If I were ever to do it all over again, I'd get them both while they were puppies so they could grow up together. Sometimes the age difference works but at least in my case, Jewelina is too much of a "baby" currently for Jaden. I think they'll get along better as she grows up. |
